“There is growing consensus in favor of returning individual specific research results that are clinically #actionable, valid, and reliable. However, deciding what and how research results should be returned [to study participants and their treating physicians] remains a considerable challenge.”   A few weeks ago, researchers from Stanford University School of Medicine and Department of Health Sciences and Technology (D-HEST), ETH Zürich uploaded the manuscript “Researcher Views on Multi-omics Return of Results to Research Participants: Insights from the Molecular Transducers of Physical Activity Consortium (MoTrPAC) Study” on a preprint server[1].   Our COO, Rudi Schmidt, will include this aspect in his presentation at the 24th Drug Discovery Innovation Programme (DDIP) in Barcelona when talking about "Evaluating #actionability of current and future insights from #multiomics, #PrecisionMedicine and #AI.”   Another part of his analysis will be the publication “Precision medicine in the era of multi-omics: can the data tsunami guide rational treatment decision?”[2]   His presentation will focus on how to overcome the challenges in drug development and translational discordance with multi-omics and AI approaches. How can multi-omics and AI adress issues such as poor hypotheses, irreproducible data, ambiguous preclinical models, statistical errors, clinical relevance of basic research and data sharing? The presentation will summarize the latest strategies to evaluate and overcome these problems during the drug discovery and development process. Our COO, Rudi Schmidt, will speak at the 15th Annual Drug Discovery Forum in Berlin about "What Real-World Data from #aging research can teach us for #AI-based precision medicine in #drug development." #Drugdevelopment faces high attrition rates, and the reproducibility and translatability of preclinical findings to human applications are still limited, resulting in a low return on investment in terms of clinical impact. In his presentation Rudi will focus on how to overcome these challenges and the translational discordance #realworlddata from research in aging and #longevity. Summarizing the latest publications he will outline several conclusions, for example, on state-of-the-art model-informed drug development (MIDD) that combines real-world data of physiology, pharmacology, and disease processes during aging with #artificialintelligence.   Decades of research using genetic and molecular biology tools have unlocked several hallmarks of aging. At the same time, our understanding of embryonic development and cell growth has considerably improved. The mechanisms and pathways related to aging can be targeted for lifestyle as well as for drug interventions. Our COO, Rudi Schmidt, will talk about #VirtualReality for #PublicHealth at Metaverse One on September 18. Preparedness plays a critical role in #healthcare. The rapid advancements in Virtual Reality (#VR) and human-computer interaction offer remarkable opportunities for improving traditional preparation methods. Latest research demonstrates that VR simulation training, when combined with technical skills training, enhances the response capacity of emergency responders compared to conventional training methods.   On the other end of the spectrum (between surprising and foreseeable public #health-relevant events and #occupationalsafety), #safety education remains a critical concern. The future is #precisionmedicine. This is an emerging era for the medicine concept. #Healthcare that is participatory, #personalized, #predictive, and #preventive is expected to replace the traditional unilateral trial-and-error medicine. This will be achieved through #precision medicine. The US National Human Genome Research Institute defines precision medicine to be “an innovative approach that uses information about an individual’s genomic, environmental, and lifestyle information to guide decisions related to their medical management.” Incorporating all areas of a person’s life will ensure that their treatment plan is uniquely designed for the best rate of success.   By 2030, it is anticipated that deaths due to chronic illnesses will increase to 70%. Like cardiovascular diseases, which currently top the list for the highest contributor to the global burden of disease, many chronic illnesses are preventable. For instance, 80% of premature heart attacks and strokes can be largely prevented through lifestyle modifications. Currently, disease treatments are not optimized for an individualized treatment approach. The urgency of the era is to promote a long health span so people can live longer, healthier lives.   Life expectancy is expected to rise. In the next eighty years, over 20% of the global population will be aged 65 years or older. Taking a step forward and focusing on the preventive aspect of medicine will enable the disease state to be as short as possible for improved health outcomes. Combining #precision and #preventive medicine is the best course of action to promote healthful longevity on a personal and society level. This will combine epigenetic data, #lifestyle interventions, #biomarkers, #digital health measures, and genomic data for a truly all-rounded approach towards preventing and treating illness. Our day 3 started with His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan visiting our stand while touring the Abu Dhabi Global Healthcare Week today. The Institute for Healthier Living Abu Dhabi is charting a new course for healthcare regionally and globally. We are focusing on precision lifestyle medicine and will help to promote healthy longevity by using advanced technology.
