Ricardo Tovar

Digital Content Manager

Ricardo Tovar grew up in the Bay Area and would later attend Chico State earning a bachelor's in news journalism. While in college he covered the deadliest Camp Fire in California history the Camp Fire. He earned a California News Publishers Association journalism award for his coverage of the devastating wildfire that killed 85 people in the northern California town of Paradise. 


He would start his journalism career in Chico at the local TV station KHSL-TV in 2021 before heading down to the Central Coast to join KION-TV in 2022. He worked as the Digital Content Manager before making the jump across the highway to join KSBW in 2024 for the same position. 


He was also accepted into NPR's NextGen Radio program in 2019. Designed to give the next generation of journalists the tools to succeed in their careers.  


Ricardo has loved his time on the Central Coast and has grown to think of the area as a second home. 


When not working, Ricardo enjoys watching sports, reading fiction, and looking through every nook and cranny for a unique food spot on the Central Coast. If you know any good eating spots feel free to reach out and let him know.
