Brian Johnson joined KMBC as a multimedia journalist in July 2014.

Prior to working at KMBC, Brian was the weekend anchor/reporter at WILX in Lansing, Michigan. When he wasn't behind the news desk, many of his stories focused on state and local politics, schools, and infrastructure issues.

Brian worked at ABC News in Washington D.C. as the David Kaplan Fellow. While working for the network, he covered the president, national politics, and the 2012 presidential election. His work ran on World News with Diane Sawyer, This Week with George Stephanopoulos and ABCNews.com.

Brian is a proud graduate of the University of Missouri School of Journalism (Go Tigers!). He earned his master's degree in 2012 and focused his thesis on effective investigative reporting strategies. While in Columbia, he anchored and reported for KOMU-TV. Brian's award-winning reports include covering the horrific Joplin Tornado.

He earned his bachelor's degree in Communications at Brigham Young University-Idaho. He also spent two years in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala, where he learned the language and served the people as a missionary.

Brian and his wife are originally from the Seattle area. They have two young children and are excited to call Kansas City home.
