I would have to say that the best thing about working here at KNBC is the people that work here without *** doubt, geniuses, super creative, smart, everyone works together as *** team here when you go into *** workplace and everybody cares about what they're doing, they give it their all every day, everyone's hard workers here, they put in the work, it really is just *** solid environment that if somebody is wanting to thrive and succeed, this is *** great place to be. Oh what don't I love about working here every day. I say, I love my job and I seriously do mean that I love working for her, so I love working for KNBC. I'm the people I work with and the company really supports us and gives us the tools to do the best job that we can hearst spend so much time and energy and resources into developing internal talent that really it's *** great place to be, if somebody's interested in mobility, there are 32 different tv stations across the country and hearst loves to hire from within, if there's something that you want within hearst, they provide that support and *** group for you to do it. This is *** place where you come to build *** career and not just fill the job, can sing to me is *** great place to be. I've traveled to *** lot of places, but I've always told myself there's nothing like being back in Kansas city, there's something unique about the midwest and the people that live here um and you, you noticed her right away, awesome food restaurants, amazing sports. Right? So too, were *** big fan of our own city, Kansas City is *** great place to raise *** family. There's so many fun things to do here. Just such *** fun place to work and live every person that works here. It seems like they want to be here really. We just work hard and have *** fun time. I think it's *** great company to work for. You want to look forward to going to work every single day and long term vision. Yeah, this is home, This is my home.

The KMBC 9 / KCWE 29 Internship Program is a paid, rigorous and highly competitive hands-on experience that provides individuals the opportunity to learn about the operations of a broadcast television station. You will develop news writing, producing, reporting, and digital media skills while learning from award-winning staff at KMBC 9. Additional opportunities are available in the behind-the-scenes areas of production/studio operations, weather and marketing/promotions. Examples include on-scene reporting, producing, video editing, research, and working at the assignment desk.Production/Studio OperationsInterns will learn the technical aspects of live news broadcasts. Behind-the-scenes training will include learning robotic cameras, floor directing, lighting and show set-ups. Interns are required to be comfortable with height, able to lift light equipment, and work non-traditional hours.DigitalInterns will learn how newsrooms publish content to digital platforms, analyze real-time online metrics and more. Interns will get the opportunity to research, write, and publish stories for KMBC.com.WeatherInterns must have working knowledge of a meteorology curriculum or closely related program of study. You will work with our team of meteorologists to learn the skills necessary in creating and delivering forecast information for a television and online audience.Marketing/PromotionsInterns will gain a general understanding of how a television Creative Services department runs. They will learn the fundamentals of writing and producing effective news topical promotion, gain production experience on promotional and commercial shoots, and gain an understanding of our commitment to the community through PSA production.Sales Marketing and ResearchInterns will develop a working knowledge of the business side of advertising. This includes how the sales department can help come up with creative concepts for advertisers/sponsors and an understanding of audience television viewing information and its applications. How to apply:In order to apply for an internship, please provide a cover letter with your application. The cover letter should include: Semester i.e. Spring, Summer, or Fall (if applicable) Department preference Available start and end dates Days and hours available to internOnce you are accepted as an intern at KMBC 9 / KCWE 29, you will receive an instruction packet. Your first day at the station is set aside for orientation and you Must attend this. Plan to work three days a week, eight hours each shift with varying schedules. During the internship you should always check in with your assigned adviser upon entering the building.Securing housing and transportation during the internship are the responsibility of the intern. KMBC 9 / KCWE 29 cannot offer support in this area.

KMBC 9 / KCWE 29 offers paid internships in the departments below:

Newsroom

Interns will work alongside reporters, producers, and news managers to learn skills in nearly all aspects of television news production. Examples include on-scene reporting, producing, video editing, research, and working at the assignment desk.

Production/Studio Operations

Interns will learn the technical aspects of live news broadcasts. Behind-the-scenes training will include learning robotic cameras, floor directing, lighting and show set-ups. Interns are required to be comfortable with height, able to lift light equipment, and work non-traditional hours.

Digital
