Bangboos
Bangboos are the adorable little electronic creatures in Zenless Zone Zero. Each one is unique and they can serve several purposes in combat. This guide will explain everything you should know about Bangboos in Zenless Zone Zero.
Bangboos are introduced in the prologue section of Chapter 1, and from that point, you can equip, upgrade, and unlock several different types.
What Are Bangboos?
Bangboos are little electronic helpers that were created to help people survive the Hollow events. They all specialize in different skills in order to help the citizens of New Eridu. For example, Wise and Belle’s Bangboo, Eous, is the one they sync with to guide people through the Hollows without physically going inside themselves.
Combat Bangboos
Combat Bangboos are the ones you’ll see most often, and they can be added to your team as a passive assist. Click on the small circle on the bottom-right side of your third party member to select a Bangboo. A Penguinboo is on the team in the image above.
Each combat Bangboo has three abilities that usually revolve around a specific element or attack type (Fire, Ice, Ether, Physical, etc.). The ones that don’t specialize in a specific attack type are often supports that provide other positive effects, like healing or energy regeneration.
The Penguinboo specializes in Ice damage and accumulating Ice Anomaly buildup, which is why it’s on a team with the Ice-using oni, Soukaku. The image above shows its A Skill, but Bangboos also have B and C Skills that provide similar passives.
Combat Bangboos can also be added to your team when exploring TVs in Hollow Zero. If you encounter a new Bangboo in the Hollow, you can add it to your squad temporarily. Only two Bangboos can be added this way.
How to Upgrade Bangboos
During Chapter 1, you’ll eventually meet Enzo, owner of the Remodelling Shop on Sixth Street. He can upgrade and update any Bangboos you own for a price. Bangboos can gain levels, just like the main characters on the roster. They can also receive core updates to improve their A, B, and C Skills. However, unlike the main characters, Bangboo skills are all upgraded at the same with a five-star core rating system.
You can see the Bangboos you’re missing in Enzo’s shop, but they’ll be gray in color and you can’t pay for their upgrades. Once you unlock a Bangboo, it’ll automatically be added to Enzo’s shop along with the rest.
How to Get Bangboos
Bangboos can be pulled for in the Signal Search menu just like characters and W-Engines. The main difference is that Bangboos use their own currency called Boopons instead of Polychromes and Master Tapes. This makes it easier to pull for them because you won’t have to spend resources that are better used elsewhere.
Boopons can be earned by completing Hollow Zero, using the Bangbuck Exchange shop, leveling up the New Eridu City Fund battle pass, and participating in events.
Once the Bangboo Channel is unlocked, you can select the S-Rank Bangboo you want to pull for, effectively creating your own special, targeted character channel with a specific Bangboo.
