How to Whistle Sprint
In The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild you can run without using up stamina by utilising a technique called whistle sprinting.
Whistle sprinting is one of the simplest but most effective movement techniques in BotW, and is particularly useful in the early game when you don’t have much stamina to play with.
To whistle sprint you’ll need to adopt a somewhat awkward grip on your controller, as you need to hold down on the D-pad – the command to whistle for your horse – while also directing Link with the left analogue stick and tapping the sprint button.
It soon becomes second nature, but although whistle sprinting is faster than Link’s usual lollop, it’s not as fast as proper sprinting with the B button, so if you really want to max out your speed you’ll want to sprint until you’re about to run out of stamina, then whistle sprint while it builds back up, then sprint again.
A couple of tips:
- It’s probably best not to equip your horse in Ancient Armour if you like using this technique, as it means you’ll wind up repeatedly summoning it while whistle sprinting… which can be a bit annoying.
- You may actually want to board your horse entirely if you’re going to whistle sprint a lot. That way you can do away with the message that your horse “couldn’t hear your call” popping up constantly.
