Strider HD is the next generation adaptation of the original Nintendo Entertainment System franchise from publisher Capcom. It is being developed by Double Helix Games (Microsoft's Killer Instinct, Silent Hill Homecoming).
The new installment in the series was announced at San Diego Comic-Con 2013 at the Capcom panel. Currently titled Strider HD, the game was revealed alongside a bevy of images that show off an edgy, similar style to the franchise's past with high-definition artwork. The title, Strider HD, implies that the game will be available through the Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network, though as of now that is merely speculation.
In the words of Capcom, the game "tells the story of Hiryu, the youngest ever 'Super A' ranked agent of an elite corps known as the Striders. Strider Hiryu receives orders to assassinate Grandmaster Meio, supreme dictator of Earth, who has plunged humanity into a dystopian dark age."
Capcom reports that Strider will feature "an ultra-responsive control system, with incredibly satisfying combat options in every traversal context—standing, running, wall climbing, hanging, aerial and more." It will also offer "the massive interconnected world of Kazakh City which players can explore in any direction they choose. The traditional level structure has been replaced with a retraceable world and a deep ability upgrade system which enables Hiryu to build more power and abilities to penetrate ever deeper into the dystopian adventure."
Strider HD is on schedule for an early 2014 release. Stay tuned for more information.
