How to Get the Good Ending
If you've already gotten one of the endings in Dredge and had a feeling there was a true ending, then your instinct would be correct! This guide will cover all the steps you'll need to take in order to acquire the Good Ending in Dredge.
How to Get the Good Ending
If you've been following up on dialogue with the locals of the Marrows and the Lighthouse Keeper, you'll know that things are not what they appear to be. What you'll need to do to first trigger this ending is located the Old Mayor of Greater Marrow, who you may have heard about from the locals, however, the Old Mayor doesn't have a fixed location.
Finding the Old Mayor
The Old Mayor can be found at any of the Abandoned Campsites you may have spotted on your journeys throughout the world. These Campsites are located at the following islands:
- F15
- J3
- O2
- P10
Once you meet the Mayor, he'll be fearful of you, referencing a book, a particular Silver and Crimson book that we may have seen a certain someone holding before...
After he rambles on about a man and his wife dredging up an old book and being cursed by something in the fog, he'll request you talk to the Lighthouse Keeper, who was there on that day. She knew and saw the whole thing.
Confronting the Collector
This is where the game will take a turn. Head back to Greater Marrow and confront the Lighthouse Keeper about the Book. As always, she'll speak cryptically, saying you must move on and take control.
If it hasn't become apparent at this point, head back to Blackstone Isle and you'll be given a new option when The Collector prompts you to proceed forward with his plan: being able to ask him about the book.
The Collector will very stubbornly refuse your advances when asking about the book. Continue pressing him on the matter, asking him how he got it, and he'll mention that you were there when he received it. And so was she.
As he continues to play coy, telling you you can't change anything, eventually you're given the option to take the book by force. Take the book.
Upon taking the book, the screen will go black and you'll see a large crashing of glass on screen before the game fades back in, revealing that the Collector was you the entire time, your reflection in a mirror, urging you on to give up everything to resurrect your dead wife, lost at sea.
Following the Light
However, don't fall for his pleas. In your moment of clarity, with the book in hand, head back to the Lighthouse Keeper. She'll tell you not to waste this moment of lucidity and give you instructions on how to finally free yourself from the curse, becoming a beacon of light for you in the darkness. You'll receive another point of no return here, letting you know the same things as before in the previous ending.
Follow the Lighthouse Keeper's Light and toss the book into the ocean, where you can finally be free from the curse. As you sit there, you're reclaimed by the ocean, for escaping what should have happened years ago.
The sky will clear up, revealing a beautiful aurora and the game will fade, rolling the credits once more, but showing a world not consumed by flames. Congratulations! You've just completed Dredge.
