Brazil will tighten access to its tax database after records of people allied with opposition presidential candidate Jose Serra were illegally accessed, Finance Minister Guido Mantega said.

Serra, who polls put in second place before next month’s election, has said the campaign of opponent Dilma Rousseff was behind the leak of tax records for his daughter Veronica and Eduardo Jorge, the vice president of his Social Democracy Party. Federal police opened an investigation into the matter in July.
