All manufacturers, retailers, distributors and other suppliers of regulated electronic products in, or into, any one of the provinces in Canada with provincial extended producer responsibility regulations are required to be active in an approved product stewardship plan. Provinces with electronic products stewardship regulations currently include: British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland & Labrador, New Brunswick, Northwest Territories and Yukon.
Electronic Products Recycling Association (EPRA) is a not-for-profit organization managing government-approved programs that are established by manufacturers, retailers and other stakeholders to collect and responsibly recycle end-of-life electronics. EPRA is fulfilling this role on behalf of obligated stewards in nine provinces. Businesses selling regulated electronic products in these provinces can meet their compliance obligation by participating in the EPRA Program.

Electronic Products Recycling Association (EPRA) manages government-approved programs in British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick and Newfoundland and Labrador that are established by manufacturers, retailers and other stakeholders to collect and responsibly recycle electronic waste.
The programs are funded through an Environmental Handling Fee (EHF) that is charged on the sale and distribution of regulated products in or into these provinces, and remitted to EPRA.
Businesses selling regulated electronic products in any of these provinces can meet their obligations by joining the EPRA Program in their province. Online Registration is available.
“What is the EHF?” – a training video
This video has been developed by EPRA to explain the Environmental Handling Fee (the EHF or also called an Eco Fee); what it is and what it covers. It has been created for you to use with employees, or to show anyone who is wondering “What’s this about the EHF on electronics?”
It is a brief video that will explain in just a few minutes the information needed to answer questions about the EHF, and why responsible e-recycling as a whole is so important.
