–Wurt
The Nurse Spider is a mob exclusive to Don't Starve Together. It is spawned by the Spider Queen when she's been attacked, or from feeding most other spiders a Nurse Switcherdoodle. Nurse Spiders have the exclusive ability to periodically heal non-hostile spiders by 150 health in an area-of-effect (AoE) around it in a 8 unit radius, indicated by a web visual effect, with a cooldown of 8 seconds. If loyal to any players playing Webber, they will be healed for 8hp. Nurse Spiders will not use their healing ability unless in combat, regardless of the health of nearby spiders or the player if playing as Webber.
Use for Webber[]
Nurse spiders are extremely valuable allies to Webber, although they only heal for 8 hp, it stacks the more nurses you have, combining this with the cheapness of their Switcherdoodle it becomes very easy to get quite an army of these.
Because of their healing, Webber can tank through the vast majority of bosses, even raid ones, without armor and due to their 400 hp they can't be one-shotted. the only real danger are AOE attacks, especially the one that set them on fire, like Klaus or Dragonfly (only when enraged), since they will stop doing anything and run around aimlessly, putting you and themselves in danger.
Enemies that can scare, such as Bee Queen or Shadow Pieces are also dangerous for the same reason.
This spider is best used in tandem with Spitters, for they can attack enemies at distance while the nurses will keep them alive
If you wish to get a nurse spider early you can do this:
Find a Touch Stone and place a Den nearby, upgrade said Den to tier 3 then kill yourself, now as a ghost, haunt the tier 3 Den until a Spider Queen spawns then resurrect using the touch stone. the only thing you need to do now is to attack the queen until she spawns a nurse spider, then you can tame it. (if you are playing endless mode you can use the florid postern instead of the touch stone)
Trivia[]
- If playing as Webber, keep a Fleshy Bulb for Nurse Spider's target to easily get healed. It can save your life even you are too cold/too hot/starving/being attacked by Charlie.
- According to Rhymes With Play #281, the Nurse Spider is based on an old spider concept by Nabieah. It was previously described as a "cannon fodder spider". This concept existed for at least two years before being released in the game.
- The Nurse Spider was added in the Webber character update.
