University of New Hampshire plans to eliminate journalism major
The University of New Hampshire is eliminating its journalism major, pointing to declining enrollment and changes in the industry.
UNH faculty voted to eliminate the major last week, and current journalism students will be able to continue their course of study and earn their degrees.
The school will also accept students into the program for the upcoming school year.

UNH officials said they will be transitioning the major into a new interdisciplinary program for journalism and digital communication. Michele Dillon, dean of the liberal arts department, said it's their goal to reshape the major to better suit the demands of the rapidly changing media industry.
"We want to, of course, capitalize and keep the elements in the new major, but also embrace other innovations in the world of digital communications and digital humanities," she said.
The school expects the curriculum for the new program to be ready for the 2025/2026 academic year.
