Jacob Murphy

Reporter

Jacob joined WMTW as a reporter in November of 2023, but that wasn’t his first time with the station.

Having grown up in Old Orchard Beach and attended school there, Jacob first got into journalism through his passion for weather. That’s what originally brought him to WMTW in 2018, when he shadowed at the station. Seeing the newsroom abuzz with activity, he fell in love with reporting.

Jacob attended Suffolk University in Boston where he studied Broadcast Journalism, graduating Cum Laude in May 2023.

While in school, Jacob interned at WMTW’s sister station WCVB News Center 5. He worked with the Eye Opener team, shadowing producers and reporters. He also served as a student reporter for New England Cable News’s Suffolk in the City segment. There he was able to deliver stories on live television for a semester.

After graduating, Jacob worked at WHDH 7News in Boston as a writer for a year before moving back to Maine to work at WMTW.

Jacob is now back in his home state and enjoying every second of it. He is an avid volleyball fan having started his university’s volleyball club, and now is hoping to get involved with the volleyball scene in Maine. Jacob is also a big foodie but is ashamed to say he has not ventured out and tried a lot of places in Maine.

Anyone with food recommendations – or more importantly – story ideas can send Jacob an email Jacob.J.Murphy@hearst.com
