Big vision, small space
During the last decade, Johannesen has helped groom the L.A. wine scene. She’s managed beverage programs for the Joint Ventures Restaurant Group, which includes Animal Restaurant, Son of a Gun, Petit Trois and Jon & Vinny’s. Her other project, Helen’s Wines, is a tiny bottle shop wedged in back of the latter, and is stocked with natural and lower-intervention pours that Johannesen loves. She also uses the 56-square-foot lair to conduct wine classes, sommelier staff meetings, tastings and more.
