Transmission-based precautions for the prevention and control of infections: aide-memoire

Overview

Transmission-based precautions (TBP) are used in addition to standard precautions for patients with known or suspected infection or colonization with transmissible and/or epidemiologically significant pathogens. The type of TBP assigned to a patient depends on the transmission route of the microorganism: contact, droplet, or airborne. The following aide-memoire provides important advice for implementation and key elements on TBP in health care.
