HLPF 2024 Side Event: The Health Argument for Climate Action

9 July 2024 13:15 – 14:30 ET
UN Secretariat building, New York, USA

The event “The Health Argument for Climate Action" will take place on the sidelines of the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF 2024). It will contribute to the review of SDG Goal 13 “Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts”, and will highlight the crucial interconnection between health and climate change, as well as the health co-benefits of climate action. It will showcase how the World Health Organization (WHO), Member States and the health community are promoting solutions for building climate resilient and sustainable low carbon health systems via platforms such as the Alliance for Transformative Action for Climate and Health (ATACH). Moreover, it will present cross-sectional solutions across 3 key areas: clean energy, healthy and sustainable food systems, and healthy urban planning.

This event will be hosted by the WHO, in collaboration with the United Arab Emirates, Germany, UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), and The Rockefeller Foundation, in a hybrid format - online and in-person at UN HQ in New York.
