Officials said the school bus driver stopped and pulled over on South Lake Orlando Parkway, but the family claims it was only after the driver noticed an altercation in the back of the bus.

"[It was] not as a result of the pleas of Jasiel's sister," Francis said.

The district said the driver then noticed the boy "in distress" and called 911.

The family said the 15-year-old boy didn't have any ongoing medical conditions that could have prompted the incident and described him as an active person.

"He was a healthy kid," said O'Neal, who added that her son had no medical issues.

Sander's parents, Victoria O'Neal and Ronald Sanders, held a news conference with their lawyer, Greg Francis, after his death.

They said Jasiel Sanders was showing signs of irregular breathing before getting on the bus.

However, the family said the driver failed to recognize the signs and ignored them.

The parents and their attorney said his 13-year-old sister, who was on the bus with him, alerted the driver at least twice that the boy was having trouble breathing. They claim the driver dismissed her.
