Osceola County deputy arrested, charged with battery, stalking and more
An Osceola County Sheriff's Office deputy has been arrested and is facing charges for multiple offenses, OCSO said on Wednesday.
According to the sheriff's office, an arrest warrant for 36-year-old former deputy Doug Ford was signed by a judge on Tuesday.
It dates back to May 1 when his domestic partner was riding with another cop to the criminal justice academy where she works.
She said Ford was behind them in his sheriff's vehicle and called her, saying, "Pull over the car now! Or I'm going to pit the car or something like that."
A pit maneuver is a law enforcement technique to spin a car out.
Later, in the parking lot of the justice academy, an investigator watched a surveillance video and wrote, "... I observed Douglas grab (victim's) left wrist/arm. (victim) pulled her arm away, and then Douglas strikes her left arm.."
The bulk of the charges involve accessing law enforcement cameras without a valid reason.
The cameras at the criminal justice academy are law enforcement tools according to arrest paperwork, meaning "... Access to database is restricted, must be authorized, and is for law enforcement purposes only."
Ford is facing charges of domestic battery, aggravated stalking and accessing a computer system without authority.
The arrest paperwork said there were multiple text messages in which Ford told his partner he was watching her on the cameras.
"It is always a very unfortunate situation to have to arrest a law enforcement officer," the sheriff said in a statement. "At the Osceola County Sheriff's Office, we hold our deputies to the highest ethical standards, and we will not tolerate anyone breaking the law within our ranks."
Ford is still in jail without bond, and another hearing may be held in the morning.
