Why is Walmart launching virtual try-on?
We’re making it easier to find hair color, makeup and clothes you love. With virtual try-on, fitting rooms and constant returns are a thing of the past. Know what it’ll look like on you before you even place your order (gasp!). The future is here, and we’re so excited to share it with you!
What do I need to use virtual try-on?
For makeup and hair color virtual try-on, you’ll need an Apple device with the Walmart app because this feature is currently only compatible with Apple’s iOS.
For apparel virtual try-on if you’re choosing one of our models, you’re all set. If you want to be your own model, you’ll need an Apple device with the Walmart app because this feature is currently only compatible with Apple’s iOS. You’ll also need a few things to help get the best photo: a bra, shorts and heels to pose in, plus a hair tie if your hair is long. The reason we recommend being dressed in just a bra and shorts is so that you can get the best experience without anything showing through whatever you’re trying on.
Is virtual try-on free to use?
YES! It’s totally free.
How does virtual try-on work?
For makeup and hair virtual try-on, see how hair color, lipsticks, eyeshadows, blushes & bronzers look on YOU through the magic of augmented reality. Try them on and instantly add to cart. Within the experience, there’s a slider icon so you can see your before & after. You can also snap & save a photo with the camera icon, or tap the “i” icon to quickly access our privacy policy.
For apparel virtual try-on there are two ways to use virtual try-on: being the model yourself or choosing one of our models. If you're choosing a model, we've got 100+ to choose from with diverse body types, skin tones and hair textures, so you can see the clothes on someone who looks like you. If you want to be your own model, we’ll walk you through the process, then we’ll save your photo to your profile so you can use it for any style that works with our virtual try-on feature. We understand this requires you to share some significant information with us and we take your privacy seriously. To use this feature, you must be at least 18 years old or be using this tool with a parent or guardian. If you’re using this tool on someone’s behalf, you must have their permission. This tool uses body scanning technology to collect and process your image and biometric information to measure your unique body features. Your measurements will be used to display clothing or accessories on your body for the virtual try-on experience. The images you upload will be stored in your account for future use, and may also be used to further enhance and improve this tool. If you delete your account, your images will be deleted within 14 days. Otherwise, they’ll be kept no longer than four years. If you delete your images, they’ll be permanently erased within 24 hours. This experience may require your measurements and images to be shared with a third-party service provider in accordance with the Walmart Privacy Policy: https://corporate.walmart.com/privacy-security/walmart-privacy-policy. We do not allow our service providers to use or share your personal information for any purpose other than providing services on our behalf. Your personal information may be stored and processed by our service providers in the United States or other locations where the service providers or Walmart maintain facilities.
How does augmented reality work?
Using live video, your face will be scanned for landmarks (i.e. eyes, nose, mouth, cheeks, hair etc.) & automatically analyzed by our service provider's software to determine where to apply the makeup. Some jurisdictions may consider the image scan to be biometric data.
What does Walmart do with my data?
Your data, biometric or otherwise, will only be used for this beauty virtual try-on feature. We won’t store it on any server, system or location, share it with other entities or sell it to third parties. Check out Walmart’s Privacy Policy for more info: https://corporate.walmart.com/privacy-security/walmart-privacy-policy.
