A selection of brands we worked with
We try to make it look simple, but in fact every Uncover is a complex operation involving a number of different expertises.
One of the most crucial moments in creating a piece of art: which canvas are you using? In other words: which Macbook do you want to customize? You can either send in your own MacBook or order a brand new model through us, as we are an official Apple Partner.
Upload your design/idea for the Uncover. You will then receive a mock-up, which will give you an impression of how your design would look on the chosen MacBook model. The design should be simple, as well as beautiful and we live by the philosophy of less is more. The mock-up comes with a quote for the total price of the operation.
After mailing back and forth about the nitty gritty details of your design and after the final approval, you'll receive an invoice.
Sending in your own MacBook? Be sure to send it insured, backed-up and through priority shipping to our lab. We will update you when the MacBook is in our possesion and when the customization process will be finished.
After receiving your payment and MacBook we will start the creation of the inlay. This is the piece of half-translucent plexiglass that we embed into the MacBook screen to be backlit. For most designs, this also includes the lasercutting of perfectly fitting aluminum 'islands'to be encrusted into the plexiglass inlay.
When the MacBook is done it will be carefully packaged. You can pick it up at our shop or we can ship it you almost everywhere it the world with priority and insurance. After receiving your MacBook you will be part of our Uncover Family.
How does it work?
We won't reveal our secret sauce because it took a long time to get the recipe right, but suffice to say that we use the fact that there's a gigantic light panel behind the entire aluminium case.
What does the process cost?
Uncovering a MacBook is a costly process and definitely not for everyone. Our costs depend on the complexity of the design, the type of MacBook and the design work required on our side.
How does the process work?
1. We start out with some questions about your design and your MacBook.
2. Upon confirming your order and receiving payment, we will start to make the plexiglass inlay for your design.
3. Once your inlay is finished, we will give you the green light to ship us your MacBook, so we can start working on it right away. We will ship it back immediately upon completion.
Do we ship worldwide?
Yes, we do ship worldwide. We have shipped MacBooks succesfully to more than 40 different countries in the past 6 years.
Can it be done with the new Macbooks(2019/2020)?
Yes! We are the only company in the world that is capable to bring back the backlight with all MacBook models! We did this for Automattic, The Next Web, Zapier and many more!
What happens to my warranty?
Uncover takes over Apple's warranty with a limited 12 Month warranty on the screen. Any screen damage that is caused by the Uncover, and occurs in the 12 months after delivery, will be covered by our warranty.
How long does it take to Uncover my existing MacBook?
The procedure of making an Uncover and replace it on your MacBook will take 4 days plus the time it will take us to receive and return your MacBook, though we have some premium express options available.
We work from our beautiful store and workshop in Amsterdam, Uncover Lab.
