Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Application Centric Infrastructure (Cisco ACI)

We have implemented Cisco Application Centric Infrastructure in various types of customers such as Banking, Manufacturing and Service Providers.

Cisco Application Centric Infrastructure has a lot of use cases for data center networks, mostly these are the customers interested use cases - L2/L3 Mobility between Data Centers, Single pane of glass management using APICs/NDO and Intergrations with other solutions in data centers such as VMWare.

Pros

  • L2/L3 host mobility between DC sites
  • VMWare and other virtualization solution integration
  • Large scale DC network management and monitoring

Cons

  • More visibility in APIC GUI of how traffic going through within Cisco Application Centric Infrastructure fabric
  • Configuration complexity for multi-site environments
  • A solution to application flow visibility to enforce contracts
  • More uptime due to robust design leading to more productivity
  • Less overhead for data center management team
  • Less time consuming with the support of automation
Cisco Application Centric Infrastructure is a more mature and proven product in different types of customer data centers. Currently this is the best solution for on-prem or hybrid cloud environments as other products nowhere close to Cisco as feature wise. Though most vendors claim they have certain features they are yet to prove it within production environments.
Deploying a data center network can be quite complex and time consuming depending on its scale and underlying technology used for the deployment. With Cisco Application Centric Infrastructure it does not make difference of deployment time between small or very large data center because building the fabric is automated. We can discover/add/remove switches within a couple of minutes without a hassle.
We have deployed more than hundreds of services in more than hundreds of servers within minutes, thanks to automation. We were able to do this without any third-party tools. This was possible from MSO itself. If we were to do this manually it would have taken more than a month to complete.

Do you think Cisco Application Centric Infrastructure (Cisco ACI) delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Cisco Application Centric Infrastructure (Cisco ACI)'s feature set?

Yes

Did Cisco Application Centric Infrastructure (Cisco ACI) live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Cisco Application Centric Infrastructure (Cisco ACI) go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Cisco Application Centric Infrastructure (Cisco ACI) again?

Yes

In my opinion, it is a good solution where the edge port requirement scales well beyond 2 switches and there is more than one data center to manage. If you can manage your edge port requirement with two switches I do not see a point of purchasing Cisco Application Centric Infrastructure considering ROI and lack of use cases for very small data centers.
