The remote control doesn't work

The following are general troubleshooting steps to address the most common issues with an infrared (IR) remote control.

Before you start

• Check the remote control for damage. A damaged remote control should be replaced.  Go to Parts and Accessories. 
• Make sure the device to be controlled is on and functional. Press the power button directly on the device, not the remote control.
• Make sure you are within 3-10 feet of your device and point the remote control at the IR sensor of the device.

General troubleshooting

Check the remote control after each step to determine if it is working. If you need model-specific information, check your manuals .

1. Remove any objects that may block the IR signal between your remote control and the device.
   • Glass doors or enclosures can affect the signal from the remote control. Open glass doors to determine if that makes a difference.
   • Move indoor plants and devices that may cause interference.
   • Make sure the IR sensor on the device isn't exposed to direct sunlight or bright lights.
2. Check if the LED on the front of your device (TV) is blinking when pressing a remote button. If the LED blinks/flashes when pressing your remote buttons, the remote is sending a signal and the device is receiving it.
3. Reset the remote control.
   • Remove the batteries from the remote control.
   • Press each button on the remote control twice to discharge the power.
   • Insert new batteries, noting the correct polarity. Do not use rechargeable batteries.
4. Perform a power reset of the device.
   • Unplug the device.
   • Wait 1-2 minutes.
   • Plug the device back in and turn the power on.

• TV remotes with a MIC or Google Assistant button

  If you have a TV remote with a MIC button or Google Assistant button, your remote may be connected to the TV using Bluetooth. Radio interference may occur in the following situations and cause poor operation of the microphone or remote control because Bluetooth radio waves use the same frequency as radio waves emitted from microwaves and wireless LAN devices:

  Possible causes:

  1. There are people or obstacles (such as metal objects or walls) between the TV and the remote control.
  2. A microwave is being used nearby.
  3. There is a wireless LAN access point nearby.
  4. The TV and remote control are unpaired.

  Possible solutions:

  • Use the remote control closer to the TV.
  • Remove obstacles between the TV and the remote control.
  • Use the remote control when the microwave is not in use.
  • Turn off other Bluetooth devices.
  • Check the TV’s Bluetooth settings to turn it on or toggle it off and on.

    Steps may vary, if you need model-specific information, check your manuals .

    1. On the supplied remote control, press the HOME or Quick Settings ( or ) button, depending on the model.
    2. Select Settings → Remotes & Accessories → Bluetooth. If Bluetooth is disabled, enable it. If it's enabled, disable it and then enable it again.
  • Pair the remote control again

    Steps may vary, if you need model-specific information, check your manuals .

    1. On the supplied remote control, press the HOME or Quick Settings ( or ) button, depending on the model.
    2. Select Settings → Remotes & Accessories → Remotes control → Connect via Bluetooth → Connect a new remote, then follow the on-screen instructions to reconnect the remote control. If you cannot operate the TV with the supplied remote control, you can use another Sony TV remote (if available) to select the steps provided to get to Connect a new remote, and then try connecting again with the supplied remote control.
• A/V receivers and amplifiers

  If the remote does not work for your A/V receivers and amplifiers, follow these steps:

  1. If there are no additional devices connected to the receiver/amplifier, then restore the device to factory default settings.
  2. Other connected devices may cause remote control issues. If there are additional devices connected to the receiver/amplifier:
     • Unplug all devices.
     • Restore the receiver/amplifier to factory default settings.
     • Plug in each device and check the remote control operation of the receiver/amplifier.
