Remember when Kris Humphries and Kim Kardashian were married? The last remnant of their time together was sold at auction on Tuesday.
Their marriage lasted a total of 72 days, but the engagement ring is going to last far longer on someone else’s finger. On Tuesday, the engagement ring that Kris Humphries gave his ex-wife Kim Kardashian was sold at a Christie’s auction in New York City.
The opening bid for the 16.21-carat center diamond with two 1.8-carat side diamonds was $200,000. An online buyer wound up with the gorgeous bauble designed by Lorraine Schwartz for $620,000. Once the Christie’s auction fees were added to the price, the total was $749,000.

While that might sound like a huge sum, the buyer actually got a steal of a deal. The ring is reportedly worth around $2 million. While a majority of the proceeds will go into the Boston Celtics player’s pocket, the auction house catalog did note that a portion of the sale will go to an unnamed charity.
Kardashian wanted nothing to do with Humphries once their marriage was over. She struggled to finalize their divorce before the birth of her daughter with Kanye West. The NBA player dragged out the divorce proceedings for a year and a half.
A source told Us Weekly that the reality star was eager for her ex to get rid of the ring.

The insider said, “Kim has been waiting for the day he would auction it. Everyone always asked what Kim did with the ring — she silently gave it back over a year ago! And Kris waited until the divorce was final to sell it.”
Another point to note is that the source claims it was Kardashian who bought the ring; it was not a gift from the 28-year-old athlete.
The TV personality clearly wants to put that marriage behind her since the couple was barely getting along when they walked down the aisle in August 2011. Kardashian is now happily paired up with West, but they’re not engaged.
