While you’re here, extend your music journey to the entire museum:

Check out Art of Noise, a multisensory exhibition for music lovers that charts how design has shaped our experience of listening over the past 100 years. As part of the partnership with Company Studio, artists Mejiwahn and Tony MF will curate music from records they have selected in Devon Turnbull’s Hi-Fi Listening Room on the day of the event.

Immerse yourself in Ragnar Kjartansson’s beloved video installation The Visitors, and let the lush sound and images transport you to a historic mansion where the artist and his friends perform music together.

Pro tip: On our Floor 2 terrace, don’t miss Japanese artist Yuri Suzuki’s sound sculpture Arborhythm playing a remix of quintessential San Francisco sounds. Listen carefully and you may be able to spot the iconic clatter of a cable car.

About the Artists

Photo: Ovrkast

Ovrkast

Ovrkast is a songwriter, lyricist, and producer from East Oakland. A product of the Bay Area’s eclectic artistry, he is reshaping the region’s niche rap sound with an ethereal, laid-back approach. His solo debut album, Try Again, was released in 2020, with an extended deluxe version following in 2021. After dropping a series of singles, he delivered an anticipated six-track project titled RESET! in 2023. His work has garnered attention from outlets like Pitchfork, On The Radar Radio, KQED, Passion of the Weiss, and more. With an emphasis on minimalism and jazzy, sample-based experimentation, he continues to evolve his sonic identity, with a forthcoming album in the works.

Tanukichan

Tanukichan is the solo project of classically trained Bay Area native Hannah van Loon, whose music screeched to a halt when she discovered what she affectionately calls “dad rock” in her tween years. Throughout her self-described “sheltered” adolescence, van Loon taught herself guitar by spending hours in front of the radio, replicating riffs and chords from omnipresent bands like The Beatles.

Tanukichan’s debut album, Sundays, was released in 2018, and her second album, GIZMO, in 2023, both via Company Records with production by Chaz Bear.

Space Ghost

Space Ghost is an Oakland-based musician and DJ. He’s released a handful of albums and EPs over the last few years with labels such as Tartelet Records, Apron Records, Pacific Rhythm, and PPU. Often drawing inspiration from the ‘80s and ‘90s underground scene, Space Ghost’s music tends to walk the line between Ambient and Dance. As a DJ, he has played worldwide and is frequently found spinning around the S.F. Bay Area.

Lionmilk

Lionmilk is Mokichi Kawaguchi: pianist, composer, and producer. Born and raised in Los Angeles, he grew up listening to his mother’s classical radio in the morning, his brother’s hip-hop CDs during the day, and his father’s jazz records in the evening. From the thriving underground electronic music scene to the expansive local jazz community, his work reflects his eternal growth and the city’s ever-changing tendencies.

Photo: Cheflee

Cheflee

Cheflee is a multi-instrumentalist composer and visual artist. Born in Oakland, Cheflee has produced and performed for the past seven years, drawing writing inspiration from those in the community and the world around us.

Mejiwahn

Mejiwahn is a musician/producer based in Oakland, whose music feels like a journey through dusty record shops and smoke-filled jazz clubs toward a secluded forest in the mountains, with a pit-stop in Copacabana. His relaxed yet intricate style overlaps lo-fi hip-hop, R&B, samba, and bossa nova, meeting the L.A. beat scene when it crosses into experimental jazz psychedelia.

Tony MF

Tony MF is a keyboardist and producer living in the Bay Area. In addition to his solo recording work, he plays in Toro y Moi and co-facilitates Local Group, a collectivist music project.
