A BIT OF HISTORY

  • The Hall, formerly a church consecrated in 1968 inside a one-time summer residence for teenagers, the marble statues located in the garden and the history of the place transmit the local spirit of the land in all the Resort’s common areas.
  • Close to Borgo di Palo (Ladispoli), once stood the Etruscan port of Alsium. The first evidence of the city of Alsium dates back to 247 B.C., the year in which the entire surrounding land was stolen from the Etruscans by the Romans. A few meters from the Resort it is still possible to see the ruins of some Roman villas and a few kilometers away the Etruscan necropolis of “Banditaccia” in Cerveteri (UNESCO heritage site).

CARAVAGGIO'S LAST HOME:

From the letters kept in the Vatican’s secret archives we find confirmation of the theory held… “And it was on the voyage from Naples to Rome that the painter Caravaggio hoped to have finally obtained a papal pardon after being condemned to capital punishment”. While the exact point of his death is still in doubt, it is certain that the painter landed at the small pier of Palo Laziale in July 1610.

That pier, under the fortress of Castle of Palo, property of the Orsini family at that time, was manned by Spanish soldiers; Caravaggio landed first and was immediately arrested. Near the supposed landing point there is a bronze bust dedicated to the great artist.
