I've been a psychotherapist for over 40 years. What I have found is the most powerfull tool is the relationships I develop with my clients which are often deeply meaningful, based on understanding the depth of the person, often extending to the inclusion of spiritual experience. I am a fully trained marriage and family therapist, and I have graduated from the Minnesota Psychoanalytic Institute as a certified Psychoanalyst. The American Psychoanalytic Institute has awarded me the status of a Training and Supervising Analyst, the highest level of certification awarded. I want to help people find their own sense of truth.

I believe in providing all of my clients with the best therapy possible by using an approach that fits who they are as a person. I want my clients to have a safe, open space to be themselves, ask for what they need, and feel comfortable every time they come in. Therapy is a place of vulnerability that only works if the client can fully engage in the process and feel confident in their therapist. I strive to help clients reach a space where real healing is achieved and to have them leave sessions feeling understood and closer to their goals.

At Geekery and Growth I focus on working with fellow adult geeks, nerds, and misfits. As a gay geek myself, I enjoy working with the LGBTQIA2S communities, and find that there is a significant overlap between the geek and queer communities. I am also passionate about helping people who are trauma survivors learn how to build or rebuild a life that reflects who they are and what they want. Because I focus on working with adults, I currently only offer evening appointments, and because I offer appointments via telehealth, you can do therapy anywhere you have privacy and an internet connection so it is easier to fit it in your life.

If starting therapy with a new therapist feels a little bit daunting, that’s alright! Life and all its stressors can be difficult to manage sometimes, and having positive support can make a huge difference for our mental health. I believe that everyone deserves to have a safe space where they can openly share their story, regardless of their various identities, background, or personal experiences. Healing is not linear; healing can be slow, stressful, and confusing. Sometimes we aren't quite sure where to start. My intention is to meet you with empathy and nonjudgmental care.

Hello! I firmly believe that individuals are always in the process of becoming, continually shaped by their thoughts, emotions, actions, and surroundings. Recognizing that growth can encompass positive transformation as well as profound loss, I use relational, humanistic, and narrative approaches. I am committed to dismantling barriers to authenticity and connection, especially for those navigating or aspiring to live counter-culturally and I work with folks in all relationship configurations. Transitioning to psychotherapy after a long tenure in the arts, I bring an artist's paradigm of thinking and relating to my practice.

Everyone struggles with patterns, things we become "stuck" on. I work to help my clients identify what these are and what contributes to them. During this process, we work through the memories, thoughts, and behaviors that maintain these patterns. Many of our challenges start from us trying to help ourselves, whether it be coping with something or problem-solving. So, addressing these reasons is essential to treatment, and I take a strength and values-based approach. With additional training in art therapy, we also may use expressive art techniques.

Hi there! The last few years have been quite something, huh? I imagine you are looking for a therapist as you want to feel better and find some relief in your day to day life. Step by step, we can do some healing, create clarity, explore parts of you and your identities, build a more stable foundation, and identify your values you want to live your life by. I am a justice-oriented, & trauma-informed therapist in her late 30s who is a half-time therapist, half-time creative, and full-time human. I believe all humans deserve access to mental health care and I utilize a financial justice sliding scale at my practice.

Are you experiencing difficulty with personal or work life issues or relationships? Are you unsure about how to bring up issues at home or work to have a constructive discussion? Do you avoid issues hoping that they'll get better or go away? Do you repress your feelings about the "little" things then lose your "cool"? I develop trusting relationships with clients while working on these issues and others. I view the client and myself as a team focused on gaining insight and skills so the client can cope with present day issues and enhance relationships.

You deserve respect for your experiences and equitable access to a joyful life. Therapy has shifted orientation of fixing something that is wrong to discovering other tools in your box and utilizing each to their full capacity. You are not broken, or too much, though the situation may be and together we determine the shape and the form, envisioning what’s next. It is part of a process that every person deserves, discovering or uncovering what isn’t working in your life and expanding your unique abilities as it aligns with your joy.

Let’s talk about healing…what are we struggling with that is our responsibility to heal and what might we be carrying that was passed onto us? Giving yourself the grace and compassion to heal is one way to change the dynamics of our interactions with others as well as our relationship with ourselves. Holding space for people to explore the impact of mental health on their own life is the central focus of my work. I am a relational therapist and feel that it is most important to establish a sense of trust and empathy with clients in order for therapeutic growth to occur.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Minneapolis?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
