Bringing cloud capabilities into data center

Bring cloud capabilities to your data center to modernize databases and optimize your hybrid environment with Exadata Cloud@Customer. Get the best possible performance and highest availability at a lower cost, while meeting data sovereignty and regulatory requirements.

Architecture

  • The databases run on one or more virtual machine (VM) clusters that reside on Exadata infrastructure in customer’s data center.
  • Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) FastConnect connects your data center to the OCI region using a public virtual circuit to connect the edge of network to the Oracle edge.
  • With elastic compute and storage expansion, the compute capacity can dynamically expand up to eight database servers and up to 12 total storage servers of storage capacity.
  • Oracle manages the infrastructure through the management network, which connects the database and storage server hardware.

Extending an on-premises network

Connecting an on-premises network using OCI FastConnect by creating a dedicated, private connection between your data center or existing network and the OCI region provides a reliable networking experience in comparison to internet-based connections.

Architecture

  • Users create private peering to access their VCN resources, along with the Oracle Services Network.
  • Users create public peering, leveraging the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure backbone when required to access supported SaaS applications running in the same or a separate region.
  • A service gateway lets resources in customers’ VCN privately and securely access Oracle services in the Oracle Services Network, without exposing your data on the internet.

Optimizing hybrid operations

Efficiently manage hybrid operations by modernizing the infrastructure of Oracle E-Business Suite applications running the manufacturing operations by bringing them into Oracle Cloud and connecting with a new implementation of Oracle Fusion Financials.

Architecture

  • A set of adapters, providing connectivity and integration for Oracle E-Business Suite, cloud services and technologies, and SaaS applications as Oracle Fusion Financials.
  • Typically composed of two Cloud Guard–enabled compartments to provide maximum security. The compartment where the database system and the Autonomous Database private endpoint are deployed is a security zone compartment.
  • The integration connectivity agent deployed in a VM connects Oracle Cloud integration with resources in a private subnet.
  • The Oracle E-Business Suite adapter in Oracle Integration serves as a connection tool for customers to access Oracle E-Business Suite services in the cloud.

Reducing risk and simplifying compliance

Protect sensitive and regulated data in Oracle Databases and provide a safe deployment of a connection to a specific target Database with Oracle Data Safe service.

Architecture

  • Data Safe connects to databases deployed on-premises and on an OCI bare metal database system or a virtual machine database system.
  • Data Safe connector enables Data Safe to inspect the Databases. A private endpoint or on-premises connector is used to connect a target Database with a private IP address that resides on-premises. When using the on-premises connector; FastConnect or Oracle VPN Connect are not needed.
  • Data Safe service identifies, categorizes, and prioritizes risks and delivers comprehensive assessment reports on security parameters, security controls in use, and user roles and privileges.

Enhancing security and efficiency

Moving your on-premises access management system to Oracle Identity Cloud Service enables integration of infrastructure and platform services for simpler and more efficient business processes.

Architecture

  • The identity service features adaptive security that provides strong authentication based on users’ behavior within the service. When activated, adaptive security can analyze a user’s risk profile based on historical behavior.
  • The account recovery feature enables users to access accounts for troubleshooting. Administrators can configure three account recovery factors: security questions, email, and text messages.
  • The AD Bridge provides a link between on-premises AD enterprise directory structure and Oracle Identity Cloud Service to synchronize and pull any new, updated, or deleted user records data from the directory structure.
  • The Provisioning Bridge provides a link between enterprise LDAP, Oracle Internet Directory. and Oracle Identity Cloud Service to synchronize, pull, and transfer account data created and updated directly on the LDAP into Oracle Identity Service.

Unified monitoring for all resources

A unified view into system availability and application performance across all tiers of cloud and on-premises resources can help improve the time to value, reduce TCO, and improve mean time to repair.

Architecture

  • Components and agents optionally deployed to collect telemetry and log data are also used to run remediation jobs to help streamline IT operations.
  • Proactively monitor resources in Amazon Web Service (AWS) or Microsoft Azure by adding a Cloud Discovery Profile in the Oracle Cloud Management UI.
  • Identify hot spots within applications and infrastructure by arranging resource entities in a topology viewer.
  • Automatically remediate many infrastructure problems by using runbook automation.
  • Automatically create availability alerts by creating a granular-level alert rule based on either static threshold or an anomaly alert based on automatic baselining.

Improving application mobility

Extending on-premises VMware deployment to Oracle Cloud allows you to improve application mobility while protecting your existing investments in on-premises VM infrastructure. VMware HCX provides application mobility and workload migration from your on-premises SDDC to Oracle Cloud VMware Solution.

Architecture

  • HCX-assisted bidirectional migrations of workloads and applications between on-premises and Oracle Cloud VMware Solution helps maintain hybrid cloud operational consistency.
  • FastConnect provides low-latency, high-throughput network connectivity with 1 Gb/sec and 10 Gb/sec port speeds, which helps to deliver a seamless experience in hybrid cloud operations.
  • An SD-WAN tunnel can be built to establish the hybrid state, pairing the on-premises HCX Manager with the Oracle Cloud VMware Solution HCX Manager and creating the service mesh and interconnects.
  • The network can be extended by stretching networks over FastConnect and the internet.

Resolve hybrid cloud complexity with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure

Seamlessly extend IT capacity and optimize IT spending on on-premises infrastructure

On one end, the legacy applications' compatibility with services and the regulatory requirements for compliance keep organizations from moving their IT infrastructure out of the data centers—even though every upgrade costs more. In contrast, newer modern applications demand flexible and scalable infrastructure solutions to be ready for growth and adjust to changing business needs.

Extending workloads to the cloud allows organizations to scale resources on demand while still meeting compliance requirements—without significant data center investments or compromising latency. OCI hybrid solutions, such as Exadata Cloud@Customer and Oracle Cloud VMware Solution (OCVS), can help you consolidate data centers with minimal architectural changes.

Back up business-critical data, develop disaster resilience, and maintain business continuity

The growing rate of cyberattacks, cybercrime, natural disasters, and the recent shift toward remote work models demand resilient recovery solutions.

Adopting a hybrid model helps organizations replicate their on-premises workloads and back up data in the cloud. OCI's hybrid deployment is a topology that allows you to deploy applications across on-premises facilities and Oracle Cloud. The cloud portion of a hybrid deployment can expand the on-premises deployment or act as a failover environment for production continuity.

Bring disparate IT environments together under a single management framework

There is an ever-growing need to manage and support an array of deployment models and computing environments: on-premises, hybrid cloud, and multicloud. The scale and complexity of processing and analyzing data for typical IT operations tasks, including performance monitoring, problem troubleshooting, and capacity planning, can quickly become unmanageable.

Avoid incidents—or resolve them faster—by incorporating Oracle’s AI, machine learning, and analytics advancements for prescriptive insights and real-time answers in real time.

Seamlessly manage cloud, SaaS, and on-premises deployments with integrated onsite and in-cloud tools: Oracle Enterprise Manager provides deep monitoring and management of Oracle Databases deployed in the cloud or on-premises. Oracle Cloud Observability and Management Platform supports the cloud native AIOps and stack capabilities for development, AIOps, SRE, and other use cases.
