In March 2024, Ontotext joined the UNDERPIN project, a 24-month initiative funded by the European Union that addresses the vision of the European Digital Single Market. A consortium of 11 partners from 5 EU countries is working on a European-wide Data Space for Manufacturing for dynamic asset management and predictive/prescriptive maintenance.
The UNDERPIN consortium gathered on May 14-15, 2024 for its first General Assembly in Limassol, Cyprus. Many topics were discussed including use cases in critical manufacturing industries, namely oil refinery production and wind farms. Effort on these use cases involves developing beyond state-of-the-art machine learning algorithms for time-series analysis for the purposes of dynamic asset management. Pilot Digital Product Passports in these two critical industries will also be developed as part of the UNDERPIN project.
Another focus of the two-day assembly was the development of the UNDERPIN Data Space. Work on this has now commenced and a datathon on this topic will be held in late June in Vienna, organized by Semantic Web Company and the Austrian Institute of Technology.
Two more marathons will be held in the following months, one focusing on use cases and the other bringing together the results of the first two marathons. As Technical Lead of the project, Ontotext will be actively involved in all three.
Ontotext will also lead the work on Data Space Interoperability via Knowledge Graphs in order to facilitate the creation, use, transfer, and effective exchange of data across asset owners and other users of the data space. This interoperability is to be aligned with principles of governance, data sovereignty, and federation.
The UNDERPIN Data Space is meticulously crafted to be durable, secure, and fully compliant with data space and industry standards. SMEs, clusters, associations, international networks, and initiatives are all being recruited as key stakeholders of this European Manufacturing Data Space.
