Love the weight, the feel of the handle, the bowl. You can "curl" your ice cream, or you can dig deep and twirl it and you've got the perfect scoop -- you'll learn on your own how to make them small or large. I'd had an ice cream scoop shaped like this one, but the bowl was a little bigger, for about 25 years. It was sturdy, but the handle was a little too big around. I never paid attention that it was cast aluminum (or whatever) coated with chrome paint. Just recently, and after 25 lucky years, it started to peel, then pit, then the edges broke away -- it was a definite discard. I searched everywhere for months and looked at many reviews. It came down to two and, because of the products stats (stainless steel, one piece, soft handle cover) and the reviews, I went with the Balci. I definitely made the right choice and, personally, I couldn't give it a better review. It is so well-made, such high quality that I can't see that it wouldn't far outlast my 25-year original. (BTW, that original I had numerous poor reviews, mostly due to pitting and peeling and the handle, being a separate piece, breaking off. I was lucky on that one.) It's so hard to find a company that places quality at the top of their list -- I believe Balci does. What every buyer wants to hear?. . . you will not be sorry.

This thing is solid, not some silver painted plastic junk that starts flaking off after normal use like you find everywhere else. It is metal through and through with the exception of the handle. The scoop is very efficient and effective, and the handle is easy to grip. It glides through ice cream, and the weight of the real metal helps add a little extra oomph to keep it moving. 100% would recommend!

Glad I picked this up. I was getting tired of bending cheap spoons when scooping ice cream and was looking for a good ice cream scoop. I've tried others in the past that seemed like they were made of plastic and fell apart within a year. This is not that! My first impression right after opening it was how heavy and solid it was. Trust me, this thing isn't going to bend.

I don't know exactly what metal it is made of, but it seems to be good quality. It has a brushed finish and is smooth to the touch. The edges are smooth, coming to a slight point in the front which helps it dig into the more "premium" ice creams which are usually more frozen solid. It makes a nice smooth scoop of ice cream and falls of into the cone or bowl without having to fight with it. No need for the release mechanisms like on some ice cream scoops. The rubberized handle is soft and smooth and you can easily keep a good grip on it. As far as cleaning goes, it's very easy. There are no ridges or designs on the handle for stuff to get stuck it, and the spot where the handle meets the scoop part looks to be sealed well to keep water out.

I wasn't sure if I should pay $12 for an ice cream scoop, but after using it I am glad I did!

When I wash my own scoop, and I told my daughter this: aim the scoop down and upside down, so that it doesn't pool water. The scoop will stay nice for years if it's washed promptly and situated this was to dry. I love the stainless steel, and the comfortable, no slip handle. This is a great ice cream scoop and I highly recommend it. I'd buy it again!

I boiled some water and put it in a metal jug, removed the hard NON-soft-scoop ice cream from the freezer. After leaving the scoop in the hot water for 15 seconds it was put to test on the ice cream. It made no more impression on the stuff than if I had used a cold tablespoon. Yes, it went in about a centimetre, then stopped. Even placing a lot of pressure on it did not work. The scoop itself still felt moderately hot ...and in theory it should have worked. Another 2 repeated attempts fared no better. I was drawn to the beaked shape of the scoop, thinking that it would sink down in and give some decent leverage, at least, even though it may not `ball’. But no, not in this case. My favourite shop-bought ice cream remained stubbornly in it’s 1 litre tub. 10 minutes out on the worktop is usually enough to get it to be more malleable...but I didn’t try this scoop again, out of principle, as it had failed it’s NO THAW claim. If things don’t live up to their claims, they go back! Simplez!
