    South-facing RGB

    The south-facing RGB LED is designed to better illuminate the keyboard backlight from the typist’s angle with the premium non-shine-through PBT keycaps installed. The south-facing RGB is also free from interference when the users install OEM or Cherry-profile alternative keycaps on the keyboard.

    This keyboard's build is impressive, its heavy and feels premium- the colors and keys look incredible and it is an overall better typing experience compared to the keychron K8 I bought in 2021. The keys sound a bit more muted than my K8's red switches but I actually prefer the noise. The keys are a but higher and skinnier, so typing is more precise but you will definitely want to buy a palm rest to comfortably use this.

    I recently picked up a Keychron K1 Max for portable use, and liked it enough that I decided to replace my desktop keyboard as well. One of my other main reasons for moving to custom keyboards was to try and get away from the notoriously buggy Logitech/Corsair/etc G Hub and iCue software that is needed for their keyboards and mice. A very big plus here was that Keychron keyboards are QMK/VIA-compatible, which uses your web browser to control an open-source keyboard remapping tool. This lets me set custom macros and cuts down on SW bloat at the same time. I also picked up a separate numpad board and relocated it to the left side of the keyboard for ergonomic reasons.

    The first impression out of the box for this 80% TKL hot-swap mechanical keyboard was that this thing is HEAVY and well built. I spent some time trying out the default KSA profile keycaps and Gateron Jupiter Banana switches (I previously used MX Browns), but I ultimately found them to have too much resistance for my taste (was looking for something linear/tactile to handle a mix of typing and gaming). After testing over 35 different switches, I ended up going with the Drop Holy Panda X switches which weren't outrageously expensive and feel closer to a Yellow switch than the banana ones that came out of the box. I also couldn't get used to the higher slope of the upper keys, and ended up changing to a different OEM profile doubleshot PBT shinethru keycap set.

    I plan to use this keyboard wired, but the responsiveness of a 2.4G connection has far lower latency than using Bluetooth which the non-Max versions only support as of today and gives me more flexibility in KB+M positioning if I do decide to unplug. Overall, there really isn't much to dislike here, even the built-in RGB and lighting effects are pretty good. Very high quality product, well done for such a new keyboard company.

    I got the jupiter banana switches and this feels fantastic to type on. The only switches I've used prior to this have been mx reds, mx browns, and gateron reds, and I like these much better. They feel very snappy with the tactile bump at the top. They are tactile enough to prevent typing mistakes, but smooth enough to not feel fatiguing.

    The sound when typing is very satisfying, but not too loud. I think you'd be able to use this keyboard in an office setting without angering your co-workers.

    It looks and feels very premium with it's aluminum chassis, and is quite heavy.

    The volume knob is a bit awkwardly placed, but I haven't had any trouble using it (but I have small fingers lol)
