Horrible Machine! Do Not Buy Unless You Like Anxiety/Panic Attacks
I got this machine yesterday as my CVS one was not working well and I loved the idea of this new one tracking my bp in an app. I need to keep track of my blood pressure. I am on a new medication that I am adjusting to and my bp at night is running around 130/90’s. I have suffered from hypertension the majority of my adult life after having pre-eclampsia with my second child. I’m very experienced with it and I can physically feel when my BP is high. I didn’t physically feel any sign that it was high last night. As a matter of fact, I usually have to take several readings because I have white coat syndrome, but I was excited to try out my new machine. It was Mother’s Day. I had a nice day and somehow was excited to see how this worked. Worst thing I could do. My first reading was 155/143!!! The lowest I got was 136/112! I’ve gone to the ER for much lower than that. I also suffer from anxiety and panic attacks. So off my anxiety went! I tried to rationalize why it was so high:“I didn’t get enough sleep last night.”“I had to drive long distances today & that gives me anxiety.”“I had two margaritas”“Probably too much salt today.”Then thought how I needed to get some sleep. That will help. Except every time I fell asleep I’d wake up shortly afterwards in a panic and my heart would be pounding out of my chest, all thanks to this stupid machine. It is now 5:19, and I had the thought to read the reviews to see if this machine is reliable as it has sooo many good reviews. Glad I did! I feel so much better knowing I’m not the only one this happened to. My other CVS machine was tested at my doctors so I know that one was reliable. Do not buy this machine! Maybe some are reliable, but who knows if you’re going to get that one or the one that gives crisis readings that will send you off to the ER.

I ordered the iHealth Track Smart Upper Arm Blood Pressure Monitor because my doctor wants me to start measuring and tracking my blood pressure on a daily (at least for now) basis.
As I started looking at blood pressure monitors I had a number of characteristics and functions that I preferred in the unit I ordered including the following:
1) An affordable/ reasonably priced unit (preferably under $50).
2) A unit that had an integrated rechargeable battery (because I hate the waste created by regular batteries).
3) Bluetooth integration with an app that would not only store and display my blood pressure data but would also provide a graphic display to more readily visualize results and trends.
4) An app that allows me to easily share data (including both raw and graphic) via email with my doctor.
5) A unit with at least 4 stars on Amazon and overall positive reviews.
The iHealth Track Smart Blood Pressure Monitor met all but one of my criteria. I could not find any digital blood pressure monitors that utilize a integrated rechargeable battery. This really surprised me given the advanced in battery technology and the fact that you can get reliable rechargeable batteries in most electronics today. Aside from that, the iHealth unit meet all the others.
The iHealth Track Smart Blood Pressure Monitor is easy and quick to setup and use. It includes 4 AAA batteries (required for use) although those I received were very low on power according to the units battery level indicator. I downloaded the units free app and quickly connected to the monitor via Bluetooth. Sufficiently detailed instructions are included and use is straightforward and easy. I did have some difficulty transferring the data from the monitor to the app on my phone until I read that low battery power may prevent the transfer despite the monitor functioning to measure b.p. I swapped out batteries and was able to quickly and easily transfer data to the app. I haven't attempted to email data yet as I just opened and set up my monitor; I'll wait until I have at least 2 weeks data before forwarding it.
