Our wifi went out one night so our Nanit was basically worthless. We didn't know until the morning when we woke up surprised we slept through the whole night (we have no idea if our baby did as well given the lack of connection). We immediately bought an audio monitor (not this one), which had crazy loud background noise coming through so we returned it and ordered this one and it is amazing. No background, we hear him as if he were in the room with us but only when he is crying or whining. The only MINOR complaint is that the battery life when not plugged in is not great.

we purchased this item specifically to have the white noise feature to eliminate a 2nd machine and it does work well! Solid design with great features .However, having the white noise on makes it very hard to hear any sounds the baby is making on the parent monitor because all you hear is loud white noise coming theough. Don't know that there's any way around it outside of having a separate white noise machine. So while in theory have the two combined sounds good, the reality is not great.

It only lasts a few hours but I only use it when he naps or in the evening. If you charge it the unit will come on while plugged up and will just beep trying to connect. I charge it while I am at work then I can get a couple evenings out of it. I do use the music function on the monkey every night it works great.
