I recently purchased the Marshall Acton III Bluetooth Home Speaker and I have to say, I am thoroughly impressed. I wanted a high-quality, display-attractive, and inexpensive home speaker. This is perfect. Without a battery, there’s a better value & more room in the speaker itself for a good sound profile. The only questions I had before buying were on bluetooth ease of use and sound quality. I can say that both are up to par. Flip the switch, it connects to the same phone. Sounds excellent, fills a 1bed apt. I’m no audiophile and don’t enjoy things being really loud, but I can tell the difference between mediocre and good enough. This exceeds good enough. I’ve had it about a year now.

First of all, both are fantastic speakers and you won't regret either one. (and I have evaluated probably 40 different bluetooth speakers to this point) The Acton is smaller, measuring 10" width instead of 13.5" for the Stanmore - so quite a bit friendlier to travel with.
The Stanmore is VERY bass heavy - too bass heavy for me. The bass is exceptional in the Stanmore, it has a thud you can almost feel. By far the most impressive bass I have heard in a speaker of this class. Authoritative. Weighty.
However, the Acton is almost the equal of the Stanmore in this department! Maybe 95% of the bass impact if I had to put a number on it. The fact that it comes from a box this small is kind of defies belief. And that's without turning the bass past halfway. The Stanmore does reach just a little deeper too.
Midrange in the Acton is superior. More transparent, wider soundstage. Just more present in the room. Like the sound is coming from in front of the speaker rather than from inside it. The Stanmore kind of sounds like its missing the middle octaves. The treble in the Stanmore is very pronounced - maybe too crispy for my liking. The Acton is just a better balanced, more neutral sound.
So the choice comes down to your intended use: if you're planning a party and you need bass thump and volume, then the Stanmore is the clear choice. But for nearfield listening at moderate volume, my choice is the Acton.

My husband is a huge music buff and never invested in a good quality speaker. I chose this one after combing through reddit threads. I was concerned about a lot of people saying I'd need a bigger one for a larger room, but we don't blast music, it's just a background most of the time and it fills our entire downstairs with the most beautiful sounds. We adore it. And the esthetics are unmatched. I'd buy this over and over again!

The build quality is great, you get the controls directly on the speaker so it's easy to tune the sound.
Also this speaker has the latest Bluetooth so it will be up to date in terms of technology for a long time.
Plays loud enough for my apartment and you can also physically connect it to a device if you don't want to use the Bluetooth connection.
It's also very easy to pair with any device.
