Description
Imagined emergencies and repetitive 911 calling is all too common for people with Alzheimer’s or dementia. The RAZ Memory Cell Phone Offers a solution called the RAZ Emergency Service. This Service directs emergency calls to an emergency dispatch agent rather than 911. The agent will know that the caller suffers from memory loss and will determine whether to contact 911 guided by this knowledge. Also, text messages will be sent to designated caregivers, providing caregivers the opportunity to cancel the emergency call so that 911 is not contacted.
The maximum number of monthly emergency calls handled by the RAZ Emergency Service is capped at twenty (20). All emergency calls placed beyond this number will be forwarded directly to 911.
The RAZ Emergency Service prevents 95% of unnecessary 911 calls.
The RAZ Emergency Service is managed through the caregiver online portal. The caregiver is able to input the user’s basic health information. This health information will be provided automatically to the emergency dispatcher during a call.
In addition, the caregiver will be able to designate up to three (3) emergency contacts who can receive text message alerts when the user places an emergency call. The text message will state that the emergency service has received an alarm from the user and that emergency contacts have been contacted. It will further ask “[w]ould you like us to contact emergency services?” The emergency contact(s) can interact with the emergency dispatcher via text message to determine whether emergency services should be contacted.
Here is an example of a call to the RAZ Emergency Service: The user taps the emergency button on the RAZ Memory Cell Phone. The phone asks the user to confirm that they wish to call the Emergency Service; the user taps “Yes”. The emergency dispatch agent answers the call and asks for the nature of the emergency. At the same time, text messages are sent to three (3) emergency contacts. The user explains that someone is trying to break into his house. The emergency dispatch agent relays this information by text message to the emergency contacts who instruct the emergency dispatch agent not to call 911 because their father actually lives in a secure senior living facility and frequently makes this exact claim in the middle of the night and that he gets confused. One of the emergency contacts volunteers that they will call someone at the senior living facility to visit him and calm him down. 911 emergency service is not contacted, and the emergency call is ended.
In the event of a real emergency, for example a heart attack, the emergency dispatcher can provide the user’s basic health information to 911 emergency service. The emergency dispatcher will also have access to the user’s location information through the Phone’s GPS, assuming that there is no interference with the GPS signal.
Annual subscription plan – $130.00 per year. NO activation fee (a $20.00 value).

Fantastic service. My father, who loves to play with his phone, dialed 911 within 30 minutes of being left alone with his phone. This was after I *thought* we didn’t need the Emergency Intercept Service. Just get it. When 911 is contacted, they are legally obligated to respond, and you will be billed (after a grace period) if you misuse the 911 system. The RAZ Mobility Emergency Intercept Service pays for itself. It provides great peace of mind and fantastic service. The operators are wonderfully patient with my father and always quickly contact me to let me know what’s going on.

Purchased a RAZ Mobility phone and the emergency service along with it. Definitely worth the money. Purchased for an elder with vascular dementia who was calling 9-1-1 for help. He lives in a nursing home and this service has been AMAZING for our family! I am soooo pleased with this service I can’t even begin to explain what a help it has been.
RAZ Mobility Team –
Hi Lynda! We’re so glad to hear that you and your senior have been well-served by the RAZ Emergency Service. Thank you for your feedback!

I purchased this service for my husband’s phone. So far we have not had an issue with him calling 9-1-1 but thought this made sense because he struggles with everything with buttons due to his dementia.

Great idea. Need more clear directions about sending POA to activate service. Once in place it is a valuable service.

This has been a fantastic feature for the Raz phone we purchased. Our LO has accidentally called 911 several times and has been directed to the Raz operators that have cancelled the call to 911 avoiding unnecessary fees. Thanks so much for ensuring our piece of mind!

My mother was calling 91 112 to 15 times a day. After I got the Raz Emergency service. There were no more calls to 911. It went to a third party who texted me and asked if she needed emergency service and I would just respond no. Very easy to set it up in your app and I’m very pleased with it.
