Enjoying But Not What Expected.CatyWe are trying to figure out why our vent does not work. We have had it and using the cooktop for about two months, but the vent keeps showing a D1 error. When I called and asked about it, they sent me to Electrolux, who was of no help. I need some answers from someone. Ikea was supposed to call me back but I am still waiting a month later. There Is a chance I might be returning and getting a new one.
The cooktop works amazingly, but the whole reason we got it was for the built-in vent, which is disappointing for that not to work. 2
Fornebo Follow-upHowardThis follows-up on my December 2023 “hoping for the best” review. The replacement arrived in good shape, and the Fornebo is proving to be excellent. As other reviewers note it will boil water so quickly that it makes an impressive demonstration, but also as reviewers note, it has a personality that takes getting used to. The comments about the controls, for example, are spot on – mastering them takes work and occasionally an error code will appear, but when you get it right the degree of nearly instant temperature control it permits is quite amazing. It also produces a light buzz or hum when heating (my understanding is this can vary by type of pot/pan) but it’s not bothersome and is an artifact of the way induction heating works. The downdraft feature works great, and it’s nice to have a variable speed control. Overall, I’m quite pleased and really hope the cooktop holds up for the long term.5
Great applianceGeorgeIt boils very fast and is a much better unit than our old Jenn-Air downdraft. We are finding that induction is far better than an electric range. It is faster to boil than gas and holds the temp better with more fine tuning at the lower levels. I also found the brandname version of this cooktop and it list for $5,000. I did the installation myself and it was very easy to hook up. I suggest getting a flexible exhaust tube/pipe for the downdraft. It make the installation much easier. Great buy!5
Had for 6 mo works great no issuesRakesh6 mo no problem
I am using back burners more to keep it away from body, and a silicone fiberglass pad to avoid scratching it. I bought it as I needed down draft, this is only model in market at 36” downdraft. 5
how to install the vent...JeriI just know I'm going to love my new fornebo - if I can ever get it installed properly. Some guidance on venting please...4
An Update - Still Happy - Stove has a personalityKennethThis is an update to an earlier review, as I like to return to give prospective buyers an idea of what longer-term owner experience is.
We both love cooking on this stove and more and more are enamored with the degree of control we have. The immediacy of response to changes we make to temperature settings and the size of the heat pattern. We definitely enjoy using the 'Bridge' feature to heat large griddles etc...
One thing that is worth understanding is that the controls are somewhat of a learning curve. The touch aspect seems to like a combination of pressure and dwell that takes a bit of practice. Additionally they can be driven into an error state by spills and wiping with wet cloths or wet/metallic objects passing over them. They can also fail to respond when wet. It takes some getting used to, but we have never been unable to stop something bad from happening. It is worth reporting though, be aware that you will encounter situations that take some practiced touch adeptness.5
Optimistic and hoping for the bestHowardIn an inauspicious start, the first one arrived cracked and must be replaced. I saw the unit today and, from outward appearance, it seems nice. I did extensive research on the unit, as I wanted induction with integrated downdraft, of which there are very few and are quite pricey (Fisher & Paykel, Bertazzoni). This appears to be a repackaged Elica unit that I'm thinking will be very satisfactory. As to the category ratings below, some I've had to fill out now with temporary values until we get a replaced unit that's operational.4
This cooktop offers surprising performance and valueKennethWe needed to replace a broken cooktop and we wanted to try induction.
The price was right, we needed to act quickly and figured we would trust Ikea to offer a product of adequate quality.
It is astounding. The elements really do adapt to most pan sizes. The distribution of heat is impressive and beats anything I have ever owned; gas or electric. We have a griddle that can span 2 elements. That means less burning and more satisfying frying and sautéing with easier cleanup. Fast heat for boiling and starting to cook. The touch controls make sense though there is a learning curve.
Cleaning is easy. The downdraught exhaust is strong and the grate has a finish that is also easy to wipe clean.
The flush top makes the space convenient to use as a prep area.
I found this easy to install, though the new cooktop did not completely cover that space that the older cooktop had occupied. I easily covered a small gap at the rear with a 1/2" piece of aluminum that I had spray painted black.5
Down draft induction cooktopSandyI just recently had this installed in my countertop and I really like it. The downdraft is quite powerful when on high but adequate even on the lower settings. I cleared out my kitchen of a dust cloud from my unfiltered wet vac. The dust was extracted really fast. I did have to clean the filter afterward, but it showed its power of extraction. The controls took a some getting used to, but I've gotten have gotten the hang of it. I discovered in another post that you can keep the glass from getting scratched by place a piece of parchment paper under your pot or skillet. I am completely satisfied with the purchase, and I would recommend it if you have a way to run the exhaust to the outside. We were not able to install an exhaust hood, and this was the perfect solution. It does show water spots, fingerprints and food spills quite readily so you will have to keep a microfiber towel handy to clean up right away. It is beautiful, sleek and attractive!5
So far so good!!!KerriWe are new owners of this cooktop but so far so good! We had a really hard time finding an induction cooktop with the downdraft built in, as we do not have enough counter space to have a separate downdraft. We replaced our (ancient) Jennair electric cooktop, which worked perfectly but was definitely not pleasing to the eye. We are new to induction cooking and were worried about scratches, but have learned that using parchment paper between the cooktop and the pan will help to avoid any damage to the cooktop. Amazing! We have found that the induction heat cooks very evenly in a pan and you can boil a pot of water in 2-3 minutes! Only downside is that many of our existing pots and pans are not compatible with induction, so we will need to buy some new ones.
As far as installation, it seemed relatively easy for our electrician to replace our old cooktop with this one and the downdraft fan works great.
Ordering, shipping and delivery was a breeze. No complaints :)5
Fornebo Induction Cooktop with Downdraft VentRWe are very pleased with the finished product. The induction burners are very quick to heat up pots and pans. We had to replace the butcher-block counter from the old cooktop and obtain $30 worth of venting from the home/building supply store for the installation.
Burners automatically adjust to pan size.
The vent is very powerful.
It's a great solution!!5
SurprisingAntonellaNever used an induction before. Pleasantly surprised at utility. Cooks as stated and the downdraft is powerful. No over head sound or view blocking unit. Will see how it goes as only owned for 3 months.4
Fantastic induction cooktopSusanWe replaced our ancient 36 inch Jennair downdraft cooktop with this. Small amounts of our existing granite countertop had to be modified. The electrician didn’t do the downdraft venting modifications but I was easily able to do it myself with the provided parts and $35 of hvac parts from Home Depot.
It’s performance is spectacular!5
vent is not workingKasiai recently bought it and stove works well however the vent is not working at all. Who to contact to have it fix ?1
Stove top and downdraft work well.KarteekI was skeptical that the downdraft extractor fan would have enough draw. It works like a charm, I had three pots on the stove and the steam was being pulled down from all three. The stove is easy to use and looks great.5
