    Brief evaluation
    ----------------
This surge protector allows for up to 12 devices, including 6 'wide' DC adapters to be plugged in. It will protect them against power surges and, in addition, it can protect one Ethernet/phone line (RJ-45) and one coax wire if they are connected to pass through the Belkin surge protector.

My personal experience does validate the claims the manufacturer makes for the features that I am using and I can verify at this time. Currently, I have 9 devices plugged into the surge protector, including 5 DC adapters and 4 2/3-prong plugs. All of the 3 remaining slots are unobstructed and could be used for one additional power adapter and 2 more plugs.

This surge protector replaces 2 older and smaller surge protectors and a one-to-six plug multiplier.

So far, I am happy and, in my opinion and based on its meeting real needs, good design, features and low price I recommend it as (in my view) one of the best it its class.

    More details
    ------------
The following are noteworthy, in my view.

    Positives:

+ TRUE 12-outlet capacity. Unlike the traditional surge-protected power strips where one beefy AC adapter would cover 2 slots, Belkin's device truly accommodates 6 AC adapters and allows for 6 more plugs to fit in.
+ 'Protected' green light (must be on) provides assurance that the surge protector is operational. When the green light stays off it usually means that the surge protector 'expired' while protecting your device from a power surge and it must be replaced ASAP. [The Belkin warranty promises a free replacement under its warranty terms if you meet the requirements and, it seems, you pay for shipping the damaged unit to Belkin and, possibly, the new unit to you. That's likely to add up to the price of buying a new unit from Amazon and, if you factor in the hassle, probably not worth it.]
+ 'Not grounded' red light (must be off) will warn you when there's something wrong. Belkin's warranty won't apply if the light was on when your devices got fried. I don't know if for a fact but I assume they have a way of telling if that was the case.
+ 10 ft. long chord. This is very important to me and it was one of the criteria that had to be met when I ordered this item.
+ 90 degree plug allows you to easily plug it into a busy 4-plugs wall outlet.
+ Clip for cable management. I find it useful.
+ Thin (one inch) and flat shape. Stands well on a table or on the floor.
+ Telephone and coax cable pass through for surge protection. I don't use these but I'm surprised that something this inexpensive has them. Even better, the phone jacks come covered with some sealing foil and, if you don't use them, they stay near invisible. They are so well hidden, it took me some time to actually find them.

[NOTE: The 'phone' jacks are RJ-45 (Ethernet), not RJ-11 (phone). I know that you can plug an RJ-11 connector into an RJ-45 receptacle and I believe that's okay but I did NOT test this feature on this surge protector.]

    Negatives:

    - Other than encouraging the unrealistic expectation that Belkin would pay you op to $300,000 on connected equipment warranty, I can't think of anything bad.

    Warranty
    --------
On a scale of 1 to 10, where 1 is a worthless warranty and 10 is one that's unbelievably generous, Belkin's should be somewhere around 2 or 3 - 95% of all warranties on devices this cheap are likely to be a 1.

They do promise to replace the item if it sacrifices itself while protecting your devices for as long as you can prove that you didn't do anything stupid, you have a purchase receipt and you ship the damaged item to Belkin at your own expense. It's not clear if they will charge you for shipping you back a new item. This may or may not be something worth pursuing. My impression is that you are not going to save a lot of money to get a 'free' replacement from Belkin and you are likely to waste a lot of time in the process. I'd probably buy myself a new one if the one I have now stopped working but it's good to know that they do have a 'lifetime' warranty. By 'lifetime' they mean the natural life of the product but 'natural life' is not precisely defined.

As far as being reimbursed for damage to devices that this surge protector was expected to protect, my impression is that you are not likely to get much if anything unless you can afford a lawyer and you are willing to sue. You have to meet a long series of requirements that are expressed in several paragraphs of techno-legalese.

    Rating
    ------
I will have to repeat myself stating that, in my view, this is one of the best in its class. At the claimed 4156 Joules of surge protection, my devices should be pretty safe and the price is right. I could have and maybe I should have removed one star from the over hyped "$300,000 connected equipment warranty" statement printed on the box but... as sad as it is, everybody does it and Belkin's warranty is better than most so, I am awarding 5 stars on an item that inexpensively addressed real issues I had with protecting many devices clustered in a corner of my basement.

    ________________________________________________________
    Disclaimer:
I would call myself the opposite of a Belkin shill. After reading the news stories concerning some Belkin employees' attempts at promoting their wares at Amazon via employee-written reviews and other unethical practices I tended to stay away from the Belkin brand. In this instance, the price and the promised features were hard to resist and, to my surprise, I am very happy with my purchase.

Reviewed in the United States on October 13, 2008
    Style: 1 PackVerified Purchase
As many of you already know, it is difficult to find a surge protector with more than 8 outlets that doesn't cost $80+.

Being in the IT industry for over 15 years I know quality when I see it, and this is it.

Why would I need 12 outlets? Well I'm sure everyone would agree that utilizing 12 outlets in a technology driven world is not a difficult task to complete.

I have the following hooked up to it.
    1. 40" Sony 1080p KDL 40-V2500 LCD HDTV
    2. Sony (not sure model#) 600 watt surround sound system
    3. Sony Playstation 3
    4. Sony Playstation 2
    5. Alarm clock
    6. AT&T Uverse DVR
    7. Plantronics 220 Bluetooth headset charger (power brick)
    8. Motorola 700 Bluetooth headset charger. (power brick)
    9. 8 port 10/100 network switch (power brick)
    10. Powered Amplifier type Antenna (power brick)
... and still have 2 outlets to spare, FANTASTIC!!

This right here is as some would call Da Shizzle (AKA really cool).

Anyways, to a more serious point lets review the Pros shall we?
    1. 12 outlets!!
    2. Affordable
    3. Great quality (Belkin is known for high quality at affordable prices)
    4. Wire management clips (I didn't find any use for them but it's a great feature to have.)
    5. FLAT solid wall connector (not the swivel connector)
    6. Generous length on power cord
    7. Space Saving (1" tall)
    8. The power ON/OFF switch is on the SIDE of the unit, not the top
This is great since it avoids accidental kicking/etc.
    9. Lifetime warranty and $300,000 equipment protection
    10. If someone says that they only got use out of 8 outlets, well.. they have some serious issues, there is PLENTY of wiggle room on this surge protector.

    Cons:
    1. Didn't come out sooner.
    2. I couldn't get it fast enough, yes Amazon just doesn't ship as fast as they used to, oh well.
    3. I didn't order 2, now I have to include something else in an additional order to qualify for free shipping :) darn the luck!!

Now here is something that has always fascinated me. When you take it out of the box, you will notice 3 different kinds of plugs that are not electrical plugs.
    1. RJ-11 (Phone)
    2. RJ-45 (Ethernet)
    3. Coax (regular cable fitting)
It seems that people just CAN'T help themselves to hook their phone/ethernet and cable/antennea into units such as this. But here is the thing.. for the most part THEY ARE COMPELETEY USELESS!!

By now you are undoubtably confused. But why would they include these on it if they are worthless you may ask yourself?
That my friend is a great question. Allow me to explain.

First off let me explain the physics of electricity. Electricity always looks for the shortest route to ground. So keeping that in mind, we move forward.

The cable/phone company is REQUIRED BY LAW to ground their signal BEFORE entering a residence or commercial structure. So grounding your signal again using this surge protector is a waste of your time.

Now as for the ethernet connection. Ethernet or Cat5/Cat5e/etc are LOW voltage by design. Now the voltage that a cat5 or ethernet cable is carring is VERY small. It gets this voltage from a router or network switch/hub. Now as long as the router/switch/hub is hooked to a surge protector, hooking your ethernet cables through this surge protector is again a waste of time.

Also keep in mind that if your external antenna is not grounded BEFORE entering the house you have a lightning rod and NOT an antenna. Therefore hooking your antenna wire to this will undoubtably cause interference, since it is grounding the connection to the electrical circuit that is providing power to it. Make sense? Good I knew you were smart!!

People see these "extras" and think wow, thats great, and are more likely to justify their purchase decision on these "extra" features. So it is more of a marketing scam than anything else.

Now you are an educated consumer and know that these extra connectors are only intended for protection for KNOWN faulty installs, to sell product, or people that just don't know any better, and are basically just pretty to look at.

I hope this review was helpful, and I wish you luck on your future endeavors.

I love Belkin products so I don't know why I combed through hundreds of 'import brand names' before I bought this one. The grey with black looks great in person. Over 4k joules surge protection, wonderful configuration of sockets, and a lifetime warranty, and a thick 10ft coard! Do what I should have done and pick up this sucker right away.

Overall, very close to perfect for my needs. Cord length is as expected and the extra slots have allowed me to dust off my PS4 and use it regularly. The slide coverings work well but can be a bit stiff initially. Zero concerns over build quality.

    So why only 4 stars?

It takes quite a bit of force to plug things in. Not an issue for me but I could easily see it as an issue for someone with medical issues that effect arm/hand strength. Maybe a bit harsh for deducting a point but it's noticeable enough that I could see this being useless to some people.

I have a Belkin surge protector, bought many years ago, and have been very satisfied with it. I bought this new unit to upgrade the surge energy rating (joules). Based on the Belkin website, I thought I was getting a unit with 3996 joules and a VPR of 330 volts (same VPR as my old Belkin unit). When the unit arrived today, the joules on the box are somewhat higher than what is shown on the Belkin website (4156 on the box versus 3996 on the Belkin website), even though the Amazon website says 4156 joules, which is correct. More importantly, the UL 1449 listed VPR is 500 volts, which I expect is notably less 'trigger point' protection than the 330 volts shown for this unit on the Belkin website (note: no VPR specs are shown on the Amazon website). I have not yet decided whether I will return the unit because of this poorer key spec than advertised. Belkin needs to fix the specs errors on their website so that customers are not mislead about the product they are buying.

3.0 out of 5 stars Warranty issue with the RJ45 (ethernet) ports on the 12-outlet model

In the manual it says that you void your surge protection warranty if you are using an Ethernet cable in your device without routing the cable through the RJ45 ports on the surge protector. I would be completely fine with this, however the bandwidth speeds are abysmal when using this Belkin product. I did a speed test and was only getting between 90-95 Mb/s download speed, which was less than a third of what I got when I connected my computer directly to my network. I like the idea here, but the hardware used in the surge protector's RJ45 outlets severely handicaps my internet speeds.
I was also disappointed with the length of the cord attached to the surge protector. It was advertised as 10 feet, but mine only measured 9 feet and 5 inches. Belkin obviously measured from the plug to the middle of the power strip to record the 10 foot measurement. This could be an issue for someone who needs the entire 10 feet in the extension cable to properly reach the location where they want to put the power strip.
Otherwise, its a surge protected power strip with a good layout for plugging in electrical devices. I liked how the surge protector's plug itself is flat and has a 45 degree angle; you can tuck it flat in behind something that's against the wall and it can be plugged into either the top or bottom outlet in conjunction with almost all other plugs. This was particularly useful for me as my other power strip plugged into the same electrical wall outlet had its cord going straight down. I was able to plug the Belkin power strip above my existing one and the cord nicely went down and to the right to avoid the existing power strip's plug.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice and discreet Power Bar - Make sure all the sockets work
Reviewed in Canada on October 19, 2022
    Style: 1 PackVerified Purchase
    Pros
    - Quite compact, which helps greatly when trying to hide cables from your desk setup
    - The sockets are spread out nicely
-Able to power an my stuff without switching off (monitor, pc, desk, speakers, and more)

    Cons
    - The cord is really stiff and thick, which makes it hard to conceal
    - One of my socket is unusable, they did not make any cut outs for me to plug something in (there is no place for anything to be inserted)

Overall, It is worth picking up this surge bar for most cases, though do make sure that all your sockets are fully functional before mounting cable managing everything.
