    Product Description

Celestron has reinvented the manual telescope with the StarSense Explorer. This telescope uses patented sky recognition technology and your smartphone to analyze the sky and calculate its position in real time. Thanks to the app’s user-friendly interface and detailed tutorials, it’s like having your own personal tour guide of the night sky. Leave complicated star charts, imprecise planetarium apps, and computerized mounts behind. With the StarSense Explorer, locating objects has never been easier, faster, or more accurate. Within minutes, you’ll be navigating the sky with confidence. Place your phone in the unique StarSense dock and launch the app. After a simple, 2-minute alignment procedure, StarSense Explorer generates a list of celestial objects currently visible. Make a selection, and arrows appear on-screen, guiding you as you move the telescope. When the object is ready to view, the bullseye turns green. With a 80mm (approx. 3”) objective lens equipped with XLT optical coatings, this telescope has enough light gathering ability to deliver impressive views, especially when you bring it to a dark sky location. Enjoy sharp, bright views of Jupiter’s four Galilean moons, its cloud bands, Great Red Spot, the rings of Saturn, the trapezium in the Orion Nebula, and the beautiful Pleiades Open Star Cluster. An ultra-stable altazimuth mount with full-height tripod anchors the telescope. Slip clutches and geared slow-motion controls in both axes help you scan the sky smoothly, following objects with just a turn of the knobs. The Celestron StarSense Explorer works with iPhone 6 and up and most devices running Android 7.1.2 or later manufactured since 2016. For a complete compatibility list, visit celestron.com/sse

Good for beginner. Missing Barlow lens.

Good for beginner. Missing Barlow lens.
UPDATE : company was able to remedy my missing Barlow lens issue. This telescope is decent for beginners although I think possibly a bit overpriced compared to other brands who share the same specs. However, my kit arrived with a missing Barlow lens inside the actual corpus of it. I contacted the seller and they wanted me to return the entire telescope, however this was a birthday gift and is already fully put together so I will not be taking it apart again. All in all, I would probably recommend going with a different telescope and seller and saving yourself some money. The telescope also has a lot of issues with the knobs that are supposed to keep the scope in place (like the one for up and down AND the one for side to side) . They don’t actually tighten enough for it to not be moved. Also, I cannot seem to get the StarSense app to sync up properly no matter what I do.I will now need to separately order a new Barlow lens to accompany this telescope.

This is a great first telescope for anyone interested in starting astronomy. It is light weight so you can travel and carry it easily. Easy to assemble with the manual and I am not that mechanically inclined. There are a few videos on YouTube of unboxing and assembly. It gives an excellent view of the moon. You can see the craters and mountains with the 25mm and 10mm eyepieces. As far as the planets Jupiter and Saturn you can see the moons of Jupiter very clear with the 25mm, but you won't be able to see the bands around Jupiter. It looks like a big bright star. But still very impressive. With the 10mm eyepiece you can somewhat make out the bands. Saturn you can see the ring. I would suggest getting another high powered eye piece with a wide field of view because of the low field of view the planets drift fairly fast because of the earth's rotation. Star clusters come in great! Pleiades and Caldwell 13 are beautiful! For a beginning star gazer or someone not wanting to spend a lot of money this is a wonderful first telescope.

Love this scope. We are new to using a telescope and so glad I purchased this one to learn from. We have already spent hours outside just looking at the night sky! We did purchase an upgraded lens (Celestron X-cel) but the lenses that come with it are not bad either- especially if you are starting out. We used the included Iphone app download to locate planets (Saturn, Jupiter) and other constellations. The images are clear and so wonderful. You can see the rings of Saturn and Titan when conditions are good-although Titan is a little bright dot but still exciting to see. Seeing Jupiter's 4 moons and the colors is just so fascinating. The moon was absolutely beautiful to see- very detailed. We purchased some filters as well- the moon filter really helps and the blue filter is great when looking at Saturn and Jupiter. We are still learning and we have the bug- wanting a bigger telescope already but will definitely continue to learn our way around the sky with this one! The telescope arrived a day earlier than expected and no issues- packaged great- no damage. Easy to set up. If you're new to observing the sky as we are- I would suggest some great books to accompany the telescope- also sold on Amazon to assist with educating yourself on the world of astronomy. Very happy with this purchase and would recommend it to anyone!

The app is easy to calibrate and use. The scopes power is a bit weak but it is about as expected since it is a beginner scope. Lunar observing is pretty fun and easy with this scope since you can see each individual crater relatively close up. I have yet to do any planetary observations but I am expecting it to be quite challenging and not very rewarding, in other words I don't expect to be able to see a whole lot. Id recommend buying a new eyepiece to go with this scope since the ones you get with the scope arent really very powerful or high quality. The telescope mount is a bit flimsy and allows the scope to shake a lot especially in light to moderate wind. Whenever I'm viewing an object at a high level of magnification I cannot touch any part of the telescope because if I do the scope will shake enough so that I literally cannot see anything through the eyepiece because it just jumps around so much. Overall, I would still recommend this scope to a beginner, it is a good way to enter this hobby since this scope is easy to use and a bit more forgiving in the sense that you don't need to know anything about astronomy before using this.

I bought this telescope as a Christmas gift for my daughter, who has a passion for observing the moon and stars. She absolutely loves it! The telescope comes with a user-friendly app that aligns perfectly for viewing solar events, which has made her stargazing experiences even more exciting. Just a heads-up: it's designed for nighttime use only, so daytime viewing won't yield results. Overall, it's been a fantastic gift that has deepened her love for astronomy.

We bought this as a Christmas gift for our whole family, & finally set it up last night. I thought a couple of pieces were missing at first, & the instructions weren’t the most user friendly… but I kept reading & studying them, & set things up just fine in the end. We took it on our back deck & proceeded to oooh & ahhh over the moons seas & craters. Then we spied Jupiter. We couldn’t see its red spot or color bands, but we squealed to see 4 of its moons. We went on to look at the Pleiades, Mars (reddish dot), Sirius (light blue dot), Andromeda Galaxy (faint white smudge), and the Orion Nebula (white smudge). We & our kids (ages 13, 11, & 6.5) we’re totally in awe and excited to explore the skies afresh with our new telescope. That said, I am very interested in buying a new eyepiece (as many other reviewers suggested) that would zoom us in enough to see color on the planets. Would love recommendations for that!
