Product Description

Osprey’s Farpoint 55 is the perfect companion for a long weekend. Feel free to add an extra sweater and a pair of waterproof boots; this pack is designed to handle loads up to 50 pounds. The LightWire frame suspension transfers the load from harness to hipbelt. A mesh backpanel improves ventilation and the mesh on the harness and hipbelt reduces chafing under load. The entire suspension stows away under a zippered panel creating a sleek silhouette for transport. Inside there’s a mesh pocket for small items. Dual compression straps keep cargo from shifting during transit. Outside you’ll find a zippered front panel slash pocket to keep you organized and sewn attachment points to lash on extra gear. The main Farpoint 55 pack comes with a detachable Farpoint daypack to carry the essential for a hike in the hills or an excursion downtown. No matter where you go, the Farpoint is backed by Osprey's All Mighty Guarantee.

The good part was is that this backpack combo is pretty easy to pack, feels rugged, looks great. I really like all the pockets, the hardware, the features and functionality. The bad part, why I’m giving this less than great rating, is that there is no legible instruction on any of the features. There is a small booklet but the instructions in it are actually outdated, and combined with different versions of their the backpacks. The section on how you should attach the daypack is the equivalent of “just draw the f owl”.The first time I used this set, I packed light, and I absolutely could not figure out how to attach the daypack (with a MacBook) in such a way it would not sag and crush into the ground every time I had to put the whole things down. After very long time and some hacking around, I found that the daypack has some two straps I can pull through some loops in the top to keep it from hanging down.On the same day, I emailed Ospreys support with request for better instructions. After more a week, they finally did reply but said that all I need is to pull through horizontal straps, which is something I was doing, but it was not working acceptability.Anyway, long story short, I’m keeping this, and will keep using it, but I wouldn’t recommend it to everyone.

I did a lot of research before selecting this backpack. Just completed a two week trip using only this pack to carry all my clothes and electronics, including a laptop. By carefully selecting clothes that pack tightly and using packing cubes I was able to take everything I needed. I really like this backpack. Well thought out and quality construction. Time will tell if it holds up but so far I love it. I like having a day pack that I can remove and utilize. I used this extensively.

I researched and bought the Osprey for a two week Ireland trip. Using packing cubes; "Amazon Basics 4 Piece Packing Travel Organizer Cubes Set, Small, Medium, Large, and Slim, Black" I was easily able to fit everything I needed. There are two packs. The larger is a duffle style with shoulder/waist straps cleverly concealed under a zipper flap. Unzip and you can quickly carry like a backpack. Zip back up and the straps are hidden and kept clean. Although the pack could be used as a larger carry-on, I checked it. No external pockets and zippers to snag. The smaller pack has a padded laptop slot, external mesh pockets for water bottles, etc. and a zipper pocket on top for things you need frequently. This is very handy! The small pack attaches to the large duffle securely using two straps that clip in and tighten. The small pack holds a lot but is the right size for a day hike, light weight and easy to wear.

Bought four of these, one for the wife and each of the kids. No regrets! Very adjustable, so from my 10 year year-old all the way up to my 6’2” son, this fit each of them. Exactly the same size and capacity as your standard roller board, but with the added benefit of the included separate day pack. No need to look anywhere else, just buy this pack!

This is my second Osprey bag and I love it. I don't like to travel with checked baggage and The one and best feature for me is the ability to convert it from carry-on mini suit case to a back pack. In case of this one you actually get 2 bags, the carry-on main bag and a slim day bag for daily ventures. The bags are put together really well and I never worry about them falling apart. My first bag was very similar Porter 46 and this one has some pros and cons compared to the porter. The improvements over the Porter 46 is the much better vented back surface and upgraded straps which make it a much more comfortable backpack than the Porter. On the negative side I like how the Porter has stiffened sides so even when the bag is empty it retains it's suitcase shape. This bag has thin and soft sides and top cover which makes it more difficult to fill. Another surprise is the fact that I expected the 55 Liter Farpoint bag to be larger than my 46 Liter Porter but the bag's dimensions look to be the same and since the Farpoint is softer and more flimsy it actually felt like my stuff was spilling over the top until I zipped it closed. The Porter bag also had more internal storage compartments while the Farpoint has none but the Farpoint does come with the daypack which fills that purpose. Lastly, Osprey bags are not cheap compared to other convertible bags but I didn't want to compromise on quality by going with another brand.

I purchased this bag to go on a trip to Italy. This bag was perfect; I could separate the two bags to have one as a carry-on and one as a personal item, eliminating the need to pay for a check-in bag. It also was pretty helpful in Italy as Italy has a lot of steps and it would be very difficult with a modern suitcase. I really liked the extra stomach support and chest strap. One thing I would change would be to add some loops to attach some carabiners. I could leave the big bag at the hotel and take the top bag for my day bag for my go-pro. Overall, this is one of my favorite bags I've owned, and I will be keeping it.

I have the previous iteration of this bag (the Fairview, which is the women’s version). This bag is the same size but the distribution of space is different- larger daypack and smaller main bag. This means it really is carry on size as opposed to my older Fairview (which I have to sneak on). I prefer the design of this bag, but it was too small for my 6’4 husband’s stuff and very large shoes. Would work for a shoe-less trip though. It works brilliantly for my 12 year old son and should last him a long time.

This is our second bag. It’s great for airplanes. Remove the day pack as your personal item and the other as carry on. Placed flat in the overhead and we can bout our second bag on top which only really takes the same space as single others. When walking put the big one one your back and the small one on the front clipped to the rear bag and off you go
