Best headphones you can buy for everday use.
Honestly I wasn't ready to buy a new set of headphones but my puppy, Sir Robin, had other plans. I have used my Aftershokz in Xtrainerz - Sapphire Blue almost daily since I ordered them in 2021. I also have the swimming headphones which I use for that purpose. But those headphones were my GOTO for everything.I just bought the new Shokz (I still think the rebranded name is silly btw) OpenRun Pro and man - it's the same headphones except they sound better and are lighter. There is something to be said for using a product daily until it breaks outside of the control of the product and immediately ordering the replacement.I'm sitting here after ordering the replacement last night and having it delivered the next morning just after 4am - and I'm amazed by how fast that happened. This is the future I want to live in and this is THE PRODUCT that brings a soundtrack to my life.I can't say enough good things about these. I tell all my friends about them. This is the best headphone you can buy for almost all purposes.I even prefer them, with ear plugs in, over any traditional noise cancelling headphones.I used to work in the Product and Technical Support department at Bose (until they outsourced from Massachusetts to the Philippines) and these are my GOTO for everything. If you are on the fence - buy them. It's one of the little pleasures in life you should invest in.

These are great and I use them almost daily for business phone calls. Battery life is absolutely great, charges darn fast too! They're a little awkward and cumbersome when charging because of the shape of the design of the product with the charging cable attached.

The product is a comfortable fit, wrapping around the back of the head. Sometimes you may forget it's even there. It is not meant for music quality really. You won't get high quality audio out of it. Mostly meant for voice communication.

Wind noise is horrible from what I've been told from those on the other end of a phone call but the audio quality of the mic is good.

They can be used as a microphone when recording a video on your device.

One thing: the magnetic charging cable is 1000% proprietary. Maybe get a 2nd cable as a backup. The charging cable is extremely short: 2 feet.

My audio critique comes from decades of studio recording/producing and use of professional-quality equipment.

Tragically lost my shokz headphones at work after 4-5 years. Replaced them with these, the newer gen of the ones that I had. My old ones were very good but the new version really is an amazing improvement. Super clear sound and lighter feel. They’ve improved the skip/pause button. You double click it to skip the song but often it wouldn’t catch the second click and the songs would just stop. They fixed that. They’re so comfortable. Pairs easily and no pain in my ears. I cannot wear any type of buds at all (small ear canals) and don’t really want to risk damage to my hearing with them anyways. I ordered the mini size… average size head for an adult woman. Glad I did, they fit nicely. My only gripe is that they moved to a proprietary charging cable so if you’re out and they die you’re unlikely to find someone with that charger. But it’s rare that happens anyways since the battery life is so good. All in all very happy!

I've tried many many bone conducting earphones since I use my headphones all day and in ear or over ear headphones causes a lot of heat/hearing issues in long term. So far I've never seen one that I can easily listen to and not broadcast what I'm listening to outside. All others were somewhat audible from outside. Low volume level, enough to disturb your partner night time or passenger next to you while travelling. This one is as perfect as you can ever get. This really sits on the bone, does not give out audio to outside (you can barely hear it if you remove it from your ear and hold it half an inch from your ear. And even during night time, it is inaudible to my partner. Sound quality is also somehow much better than others I've tried. I'm not gonna lie, I've tried all other options because I did not want to pay this absurd price for this one. But in the long run, with me changing headphones because I was not happy with them and some others just failing/breaking down, I've spent more than the price of this one. I still think it is way too expensive for what it is, but it is without competition I guess that's why the price can be so high and they still can sell this. I've bought it in the end after all, right? So far, I could not be happier. Highly recommend it. So, as for negatives, first you really need to know that any bone conducting headphones will feel funny/tingly when you're listening to high volume music or high bass situations. So if you're listening to low frequency stuff like explosion scenes in a movie or music with high bass then you will feel a bit tingly if your volume is high. Second thing is battery life. 10 hours nowadays is too short of a runtime for headphones. My over the ear headphones can run literally days without being turned off at all, while it is still playing music. I used to not even bother to turn the music or my headphones off, I'd just leave them on my desk and come Monday, they will still be playing the music. Of course this is a tiny device with a tiny battery so 10 hours it is I guess. Just be prepared to charge it daily. Which leads us to: Third, proprietary charging cable. That really is something that always bugs me. Why oh why would companies not use standard cables? I mean I know why, it is a business model to get more money out of you and it is easier to design a product like this if you don't have to worry about the depth of a USB C connector. But still, it is annoying. you have to carry around a special cable when you're travelling just for this one. The rest of my devices, laptops, external mobile screens, writing pad, my phone, my mouse they all are charged with usb c, so I can share the adapter and cable. But now I'll have to carry this cable too. And if I forget... well no music after 10 hours. These are all the negatives so positives outweigh by a large margin. In the end, I highly recommend these if you have any hearing issues caused by heat/moisture of keeping on headphones all day, if you have hearing loss due to eardrum or if you want to ride a bicycle while still being able to hear approaching traffic or if you just plain and simple have money to burn. The length of this review should show how much I liked these. Seriously though, try to switch to bone conducting headphones even if it is a cheaper one if you have the issues that I've mentioned. It makes your life much better and keeps your hearing and ears in better condition.

I've had the After shokz Titanium headphones and while they were good in sound quality, they were not comfortable for wearing them all day. The portion that goes over the ear kept rubbing up against my ear and it would get painful.

I got the Open Run Pro headphones and they are so comfortable, I can wear them all day and sometimes I forget I'm wearing them because they are so light and these do not rub up against my ear causing discomfort.

Also, the sound quality improved. It's a little more bassier and louder. I love that the portion that rests against your cheek bone doesn't have any openings. The Titaniums had the speaker resting against your cheek bone so that the speaker holes would collect sweat and dirt which is hard to clean and just looks nasty. Not with with Open Run Pros.

I bought one for myself, my wife and my son and we all love them. Sweating is no problem. You can just wipe and go. Battery life lasts me close to 12 hours of use which is fantastic.

The only negative is during windy days, noise cancelling doesn't work very well and the other person on a call can't hear me well through the wind noise.

I love the benefits of bone conducting of hearing ambient sounds without blowing out my eardrums.

The sound is clear, the mic is clear, great for work. I can listen to music or be on a call and still hear if there is a knock on the door or if someone is trying to get my attention. Not great if you are leaning your head back on a couch or pillow. Not effective on a motorcycle because the bike is too loud. Listening to classical music loudly tickles a bit with all of those instruments going at once.

I can’t say enough good things about these. Although they are not insanely loud, these are insanely functional for the reasons I’m going to list below. I work in 106 dB department in my factory. I wear custom fitted earplugs, and these headphones sit on your temples. This is a whole different style of headphones. I can hear the music with my earplugs. This is a huge game changer. It’s also nice for when you are cutting the grass, or if you want to go on a run, because you can still hear things around you, while listening to your favourite podcast or favourite musician. These are definitely worth buying. I don’t have a huge head by any means, so I would recommend buying the smaller ones, like I did. They come with a nice case as well as the charging cord. It does not come with the wall plug. It is a regular USB, not USB-C. I think that you can buy one aftermarket though. Overall, I give them a five out of five because they are perfect for what I need. If you are looking for super loud, buy something else. These are good for factory workers, who wear earplugs, people that cut grass with earplugs in, joggers that don’t want to be run over by a car, etc. lol

5.0 out of 5 stars The Shokz OpenRun Pro offers a safe way to listen to music while running or cycling.
Reviewed in Canada on January 21, 2024
    Size: StandardColor: BlackVerified Purchase
Shokz OpenRun Pro offers a safe way to listen to music while running or cycling.

My Holy Grail of running headphones would allow me to listen to music while being able to monitor my environment for potential dangers. I've tried several solutions: Bose sunglasses, Bose Sportsfree, Apple AirPods Pro, and Sony LinkBuds Open Ring. (I've reviewed most of these here on Amazon.) All worked well, but each of these units is very susceptible to wind noise, and here on PEI, it is always windy. So, I tended not to hear what I was listening to, and the wind noise drowned out my environment.

The Shokz OpenRun Pro Bone Conduction Headphones are not as affected by wind as the other open headphones, making them much more useable for me. And because the Shokz OpenRun Pro doesn't sit in your ear canal, you don't get that nasty sweat build-up in your ear canals.

From what I had read on bone conduction headphones, I was expecting little acoustically, but the sound was enjoyable. This is not high-fidelity, but I never understood why anyone would want hi-fi sound while pounding the pavement and dodging cars. By their nature, bone-conduction phones do not transmit much bass, but you can hear Bass notes.

These phones do not cut out any outside noise. It is uncanny. You can converse, hear everything around you, and hear the music. It is like the sound is directly piped into your brain, or you grew a second set of ears.

I have a pumpkin head. I wear a size eight hat (when I can find one), and I was concerned that the Shokz OpenRun Pro would not fit my head. They fit and are so comfortable you forget you have them on, with one exception. I wear a tight windproof hat all winter, and the cable interfered with the hat's fit and pressed the speakers into my head. My wife, who has a typical head size, did not have this issue. They do not interfere with a ball or bucket cap. The Open Runs come in two sizes, so if you have a smaller head, the Min version might work better for you.

The Shokz OpenRun Pro linked to my Mighty player and iPhone seamlessly. They are IP55 waterproof rated (I didn't test that- there's a limit to what I'll do for the team!) Battery life is ranked at eight hours, with fast charge capabilities. I've worn them for a four-hour run with no battery issues.

Some races that ban headphones will allow bone-conduction headphones. But don't be a silly-billy, and wear headphones at a race. Enjoy the crowd vibe that you are probably paying dearly for.

My only quibble is the charging cord is the proprietary cable standard to all Shokz. It's a USB A-based cable. I prefer a USB C to C cable, which means one more cable to lug around and look after. Replacement chargers are available on Amazon.

The Shokz OpenRun Pro allows runners and cyclists to listen to music while enjoying their sports safely. I will never use in-ear phones while exercising again.
