Found wireless remote floating in a puddle, no alarm sent

Found wireless remote floating in a puddle, no alarm sent
It's got one job -- ONE JOB!But floating in a puddle but not sending an alarm is not it. In service less than 6 months and it didn't catch water seeping into the basement from a blocked gutter drain. When I moved the plugin base station over to the puddle, that worked and sent an alarm to the app. But no alarm to the app that the wireless sensor was offline, no alarm that it was wet, nothing. Silent failure is worse kind of default.

I read the reviews of people having trouble pushing the set buttons on the back of the sensors when pairing. The easiest solution is to push the button firmly with the rounded end of a ball point pen cap for about 2-3 seconds and you will get the light! The setup and pairing are very easy. Be advised that you must have a smart phone for set up and that the notifications are limited to push notifications through the mydlink app. No text, email, or phone notifications are available. All things considered this product is very reasonably priced and the sensors work well. The sensors are small enough to fit under your dishwasher and refrigerator, and the cable sensor is perfect for going under the washing machine.

These devices are horrible. I bought them to replace older water sensors that beeped but did not connect to wifi. Unfortunately, these turn out to be identical. I set them up, which is somewhat slow, and tested them and they worked (!), meaning that when I put water on the sensors my phone got a notification. Great, I trust them. Fast forward to when I actually have a leak: now they beep but no longer notify the app/phone. Horrible. Better if I hadn't trusted and relied on them at all.

When I set them up again, they are able to notify my phone for a brief period, but eventually that changes and they stop. I thought this might be a problem with my device, but: in the app, after I put the sensor in water, it does not note any events in the sensor device history. The app just does not work properly, as other reviewers have noted. Wish I'd avoided this product.

I bought 8 of these add-on sensors to put them in nearly all the locations in my house where a water leak is likely: under the dishwasher, washing machine, every sink, every toilet, water heater, etc. They are super-easy to pair with the main hub/sensor, the water-detection notifications are immediate, and the battery life is a whopping 5 years thanks to the smart decision to use a sub-GHz communication protocol with the main hub/sensor. The main/hub, with it's included sensor communicates via WiFi, was also seamless to set up and use (I have mine installed in my sump pump pit to alert me if the water level ever gets above the level where the pump(s) should have prevented.

These are superior to all the other water sensor solutions I have tried. A very enthusiastic 5-star rating!

As part of my job, I've worked with various D-Link network products and have been pleased with them. This Water Leak Sensor and Alarm was easy to set up and it works well. I really like the ability to extend the sensor cable using a standard phone cable. However ...

We lost power to the house a few days after I first set it up, but when the power came back on the devices did not reconnect to the wireless network. I had to unplug the main sensor and plug it back in to get it on the network. The wireless sensor also had to be reset. I hope that doesn't happen every time because my sensors are hard to get to.

The mydlink android phone app lacks functionality for this product. It seems geared towards their other camera and home automation products. If water is detected, the app notifications are minimal. It pops up right away, but fades away in the sea of other calendar, text, e-mail, ... notifications. If you're not paying close attention, you may miss the SINGLE notification. I ignore my phone for hours at a time. It needs to be an alarm. If my encapsulated crawl space is being flooded, I want this app to pester me until I acknowledge it.

The notifications from the app are the only option. I'd like to include multiple e-mail and/or text addresses to ensure the entire household is aware of the problem. Looking for more options, I logged in with the same account at mydlink.com. It wouldn't work with Firefox, Edge or Chrome. mydlink.com only supports Internet Explorer 11 or the unsupported Firefox 52 ESR (from 2017-18). That's inexcusable. On top of that, it doesn't list my devices in my account, and it only shows product information on their camera products. Absolutely useless.

Also, the app ignores the phone's screen timeout setting. If you set your phone down with the mydlink app visible, the screen will not turn off (and lock the phone) and it will drain your battery.

Update: After another power outage, and manually resetting my Internet router, these devices will never come back on-line without recycling the power to them. If they fail to connect to my wireless network one time after a power outage, because they power up faster than my router, they will NEVER try to connect again. If I reset my router, they will NEVER try to reconnect. I surprised that a company that makes decent computer networking gear, with "Link" in their name, can't get this device to reconnect to the network without turning it off and back on.

We had a 13 yr old front washing machine that we purchased new when we purchased our new home. The drain hose split inside the washer without warning. The water spilled out into the second floor utility room, unbeknosed us. The water traveled down the hall, and into a bedroom. The hall and bedroom are true oak floors, which all cupped as a result of the water sitting on the floor for 3 hours.

Got rid of the washer and dryer, purchases another set, and installed this water leak device to warn us when it happens. Trial tests show that it works great. This system gives me peace of mind that if and when it happens again, we will be notified to address the situation before it becomes a major issue.

I love this!! Set up is super easy, and the ability to add on is fantastic.
I put one in my water heater catch, one under my AC unit, and under each sink. These are all places I have had leaks before.
The response is immediate. It sends a notification straight to my phone.
The area I live is super humid, so my AC drain leaks frequently, no matter what I pour in it. But this way, instead of leaks in my garage that take hours to clean up ( I don’t go in my garage frequently), I am immediately notified to be able to take action and prevent water from going all over the place.

The price is worth it 100%!!

Buy this!! You can thank me later!!! :)
