Just what I was looking for - Highly Recommend this product
First let me say I am very experienced in all things Wi-Fi. I was in the industry of installing and serving all types of security. Our new home builder included a Doorbell camera and other smart devices. They worked well but that other company started to charge monthly fees. NO WAY was I going to pay, feeling hostage to my own equipment. So I completely eliminated that company smart devices from my home. The equipment gets installed in the home only to find out you dont get full use of it unless you pay. No way. Enter the Lorex 2K wired doorbell camera. After searching for a month or so. I settled on Lorex. Wow, I am glad I did. I have installed MANY name brand makes (some "professional"level) in peoples home but never dealt with Lorex.I am now sold on this company, at least from this one experience and I plan on adding more of their equipment now with NO MONTHLY FEES.1. Installation was simple, took off the old doorbell camera and installed the new. Took off the old doorbell camera "control" from my hardwired doorbell which is mounted on the wall in the house and installed the Lorex one.2. Fantastic, Crisp clear video, very responsive through our very good Wi-Fi network. Wonderful motion/people detection, ok night vision. Everything works as it should which isnt always so with other companies.Negatives- (the list is very short)Two wonky things to remember when setting up the doorbell camera that tripped me up at first.1. Lorex tells you to go to the (in my case apple playstore) and download the "Lorex Home" app. Well there is NO "Lorex Home" app. there are multiple lorex apps not named "Home" SO I chose the first one as it seems like the best choice but it is just named "Lorex"2. Like most cameras now, you need to scan the QR code to learn the camera into your Wi-Fi network. Well I found out the hard way, do NOT scan the QR code on the outside of the box *LOL* when you remove the doorbell camera from the box you will see the proper QR code that is under the doorbell camera on a tiny sticker. Once you do that simple stuff.3. Like all WiFI camera equipment, depending on your phone it could get a little wonky leaving the app while you are learning in the camera to go into your phone settings, then go back to the app. Have a little patience as you may have to do it once or twice to get it right, this is not a Lorex issue though, its just one of those things.Bottom Line-I consider the Lorex 2K (they also now have a 4k if you prefer) Doorbell camera to be the best in the industry, bar none. The best part is there are no monthly fees which another well known company not only charges but just raised their price another 25% per month. The Lorex doorbell camera feels quality throughout, looks fantastic and works perfectly. It's a bargain at the price too, in my opinion. I much prefer the look vs the other well known name brand that I had.Im someone who can find fault with any product and I struggle to say anything negative about this product expect what is mentioned and that in itself is amazing. I included some quickly taken photographs. It's really a pretty unit. There is some reflection in the picture, did the best I could to take it.

I am updating the review of this doorbell camera because it turns out that the problems I was having was a T-Mobil problem and not a Lorex problem. I am now getting relatively fast notifications on both my home's wi-fi and cellular. I have the camera set to person notification only and it works reliably with only occasional false alarms when a large vehicle drives by but that's rare. I did have a problem where the first unit stopped working after only a few months but Lorex customer support was easy to work with and they did a cross-shipping warranty exchange so I wouldn't be without my doorbell for two weeks so kudos for that. I also have the Amcrest version of this camera and while the hardware seems to be the same the Lorex app works much faster when connected to cellular. I also like that you can snooze the Lorex camera if you are working outside and within detection range so that you don't get flooded with notifications, the Amcrest app does not have that feature. One really big advantage of the Amcrest is that you can make camera adjustments using their computer app, I really, really wish Lorex would provide something similar. While not relevant to everyone I also wish I could set a fixed IP address on the Lorex like I can on the Amcrest. All-in-all, I'm very satisfied now that the doorbell is working properly on my phone and would not hesitate to recommend this camera.

ORIGINAL REVIEW: First let me say that the image quality on this camera is very nice for a doorbell camera. Also the firmware does a good job at correcting most of the wide-angle distortion. I like the LED light on the bottom and have it set to flash when it detects motion so that people will look at the camera. The night color mode works pretty good with my porch light on (which it is all night) and the IR night mode works well too. There is only one HDR setting but it does a good job. Now for the bad parts. The Android app is a complete disaster. This is supposed to be a security camera, hence, it should notify you when it detects motion, or a person if that's how you have it setup. The problem is that the notifications can often take several seconds to several minutes. What good is that? I am using a brand new mesh dual band router and a brand new 5G phone. The signal strength is at max bars for both the camera's Wi-Fi and the phone's 5G, so it's not a signal issue. I also tried replacing the 24VAC 40VA transformer I was using on my old doorbell camera with a 2 pound industrial 24VAC 50VA transformer, so it's not a power problem.

The app is slow to load and when I click on the camera icon I get a message that says "Loading live view" for over half a minute before getting the message "uh-oh, something went wrong". It might take several tries before I can get a picture on my phone. The same thing happens when I try to view a recorded video. The only way I can get a picture on my phone within a reasonable amount of time is if I am sitting at home and turn on the Wi-Fi on my phone, then I can usually get to the camera. I even tried turning off every battery saving feature I could find on my phone, but the notifications still take way too long. There have been times when I'm not really thinking about the camera after leaving the house and several minutes I'll get a notification while I'm driving. Turns out the notification was me leaving the house. The "person" detection is also good at detecting cats if you're trying to keep an eye out for kitty.

Unbelievably there is no web interface for adjusting the camera, like getting rid of the huge LOREX logo that no one wants, or repositioning the date/time to where it works for you. There are no adjustments for brightness, contrast, saturation, white balance, HDR level, etc. This is a lot of money to pay for a camera that you can not adjust to suit your needs. Another head-scratcher is that the camera is not ONVIF compliant. I guess Lorex wants you to buy into their new Fusion system because this camera won't even work with their slightly older non-Fusion NVRs. How's that for ticking-off loyal Lorex customers?

Despite its shortcomings, this could be such a nice camera if the app actually worked, but after spending weeks of trouble-shooting, researching the Internet and trying every setting possible on the camera, my phone, and the app, I'm afraid this camera will not work on an Android 11 device.

After 1 month of being installed, this doorbell stopped connecting to my wifi. I did a factory reset and the doorbells hotspot doesn't show up anymore during the initial setup. It seems like the wifi chip on the device has died.

I contacted support and they were not helpful other than sending me some generic troubleshooting instructions. When I asked for more help, I got no response.

Only buy this if you need a doorbell-shaped paperweight!

The installation and setup wasnt difficult. It took maybe 15 minutes.
The camera has some good features and the app allows you to adjust and customize those features in many ways. Good picture. We've only had it installed for a day but we tested triggering the alerts and it also has given alerts from people walking their dog on the sidewalk on medium sensitivity (25 yards).
Wide angle of view. The night vision is clear.

I bought my first Lorex 2K doorbell in the fall of 2021. It worked quite well for a couple of years in the Florida shade (no direct sun), then got flaky about switching into live mode when you tried to answer the doorbell via the iPhone app. I tried resetting it, clearing the memory card, and remaking the power connections all to no avail. The plastic covers on the back ports had gotten stiff and were no longer sealing well. The plastic of the mounting bracket had become brittle.

I finally decided that I would replace it. When I went shopping, I found that the Lorex 2K still has no real competition (except, perhaps, for the new Lorex 4K) for my uses. I ordered another and installed it. Works great, and I like the new detection zone support.

I wish there were a video doorbell that I could give 5 stars to. I don't want an offsite storage subscription, and I do want good quality video and the ability to answer the door from my iPhone. In the meantime I'm happy with everything about the Lorex 2K aside from its durability. It ticks all the boxes, and works well until it doesn't.
