With working from home, I've been looking for, and tried, three different standing desks and ended up returning all of them:
* Glass top standing desk from Costco: Great value, but returned because it didn't go low enough (min 28", I'm 6'2", 235lbs and my wrist/upper arm would rest on the edge when typing) and the glass top prevented me from attaching my monitor/laptop stand. It was also not deep enough.
* Laminate top no-name brand purchased locally: Great value but didn't go low enough nor high enough to be used comfortably. The motor also stopped working twice and I had to unplug it and replug it in order to get it working which didn't bode well for longevity.
* Laminate top no-name brand from Amazon: Great value, but again, didn't go low enough and reviews stated that when something didn't work, it was a nightmare to get warranty work/parts.
The price of the Vari desk really kept me from trying it but after returning the three listed above, and realizing that I will be working from home for the foreseeable future, I felt the investment was worth it but only if the I felt the desk brought enough to the table. Here's my thoughts on why I kept the Vari 48x30 desk and I believe it is definitely worth the price:
* It has the widest range of height adjustment that I found. 25" to 50", which I found critical. When in the seated position, I want to keep my forearms at a 90-degree angle and have my fingers naturally fall to the keyboard without my forearms touching the desk edge and this is possible with the Vari desk. Since there is no crossbar between the legs, I can slide my chair under the desk when in the standing position, just like I did at our corp office prior to COVID-19.
* The quality is impeccable. The way the legs slide at an angle into the frame through four slots each, and then held in place by two screws is excellent, very strong and steady but easy to install. The quality of all parts feels superior to what I experienced with the other desks. Everything fits extremely well and it took all of 15 minutes to have it assembled and upright, ready to go.
* I wasn't sure about the 30" depth of the desk, the others were 24-26", but it actually turns out that I love having that extra space. It also allowed my monitor/laptop to be further away at a much more comfortable distance.
* The top is a laminate and very sturdy. I ordered the white/gray combination and it is very easy to clean.
* The two "hooks" that are included work great, allowing me to have a place to hang my headphones. The additional accessories, like the velcro cable ties were an unexpected surprise and very useful.
* I ended up returning the Vari cable holder because it interfered with my monitor/laptop stand/mount but it was also very well designed, with the desktop having predrilled holes with metal receivers for the screws and it took only a few minutes to install. Do make sure it will work with whatever you plan to mount to the desk.
Overall, I would highly recommend the Vari desk. As others have stated, the quality is outstanding and well worth the price. I also like that I have a known company that I can reach out to if any problems arise. I am very happy that I tried it and if you are looking for something that you will use long term and it is within your budget, it is worth the cost.

Solid as can be, simple assembly, NOT a lightweight!
First: yes, you will love this desk. Everything about it feels like high-end corporate-grade furniture - because it is. All the edges are rounded and the materials are absolutely solid and heavy. A word on that later.First, assembly: It literally could not have been any easier. Four bolts that are made of high-quality machine steel on each side, two hold the leg to the surface, two hold the feet to the legs. One of the big reasons I shelled out the bucks for this was the comments on how easy it was to assemble. Absolutely lived up to the promise.Second: Not injuring yourself while assembling or placing this terrific desk. It weighs something like 160 pounds. Get a friend, get someone, just to help you move it around. It's simply too heavy and unwieldy for one person to do - this is NOT cheap, fall-apart-in-six-months furniture, this is the kind that two burly installers set up in office buildings.Third: Take a few minutes to put your computer, monitor(s), keyboard where you think you'll like them, but don't cable them up yet. Think about different tasks you do - do you need room for a notepad, a book, that other laptop or tablet?Here comes the fun part. Raise the desk up near its maximum height. Do you have an office chair that adjusts in height a bit? I bet you do. Lower it a bit, and you now have the world's most comfortable mechanical creeper.Now, take a big ol 8 or 10 outlet power strip and use some double-sided hook and loop tape to put it close to the side where you'll plug into an outlet.Then start with the other things. That ugly docking station for the laptop. The power bricks for it, for your monitor, whatever. Fasten those things to the bottom of the surface, because now you can route all of those cables and they can stay neatly out of sight. Get yourself a roll of hook-and-loop cable fastener (a couple are included with the desk).I ended up with exactly two cables going from the desk to the wall - one for power, one for network (I also stuck an 8-port network switch to the bottom, they're cheap and you will be grateful NEVER HAVING TO LOOK AT A FLOOR COVERED WITH SPAGHETTI AGAIN.That's the unexpected benefit of this desk. I got back all of the floor area under it and next to it that used to have an ugly mass of HDMI, power, USB, and network cables.I wanted to knock off one star on cost just because it's not cheap. This is one of the most expensive desks on the market. But in the end, I really got what I paid for: No surprises at all, no shortcuts, no "hope you have a cabinet full of power tools". In 20 minutes, I went from two boxes to playing with the height. That fast. So yeah, it was a very expensive purchase, but I expect to get a lot of use out of it and I simply can't find anything to complain about.Oh, just go ahead and buy it already.
