Amazing Extenders both AC2200 and AC1900

Amazing Extenders both AC2200 and AC1900
Okay, so I own a very large three bedroom Co-OP in NYC, it's a very old building which makes it very hard to get good WiFi signals, on top of that, I live near the train and then to make it worse there are three taxi station around me, so that's even more interference preventing the WiFi from being strong. I bought the Netgear X6 Router thinking it would fix my weak signal that I was getting from my Apple AC Router, and to my surprise there was no difference as far as being able to cover my entire co-op, the dead zones were still in the back bedrooms, I added a Netgear AC1900 Extender thinking it would help, and it did. But it still wasn't strong enough as it only gave me 50 percent strength, so I now bought the AC2200 Extender and placed it in the middle of my co-op to extend the X6 and then I connected the AC1900 to extend the AC2200 and now I'm in heaven, no dead zones at all...I have 100 percent strength throughout the entire co-op, yes it cost me more than what I was hoping to spend, but in the end its worth it as the kids can stream HD movies and be on their tablets and everything else kids do without issues. Both the bedrooms in the back have Apple TVs and I put HD movies to stream in both rooms at the same time and also connected two tablets and put netflix on both and streamed HD movies as well at the same time and not one issue at all, all were running smooth...I love itOne last note, these are only dual band extenders, so they will NOT Extend all three bands if you have a triple band router, even if you use smart connect which connects both 5GHz bands, the extenders will only allow you to extend only one of the 5GHz bands no matter what and there isn't a way around it.So what I did was, used one of the 5GHz bands to be extended which is the high channels such as 157 and so on, and I used the lower band 5GHz bands to only stream HD devices that were near the router only and that worked wonders for me.Hopefully that helpsThank you
    Thank you for your feedback

Reviewed in the United States on April 6, 2017
This awesome extender looked that it would dramatically improve the performance of wifi deficiencies in my house. This was to replace the ex6200 that finally died after many years of faithful and uneventful service. I've installed all the electronic thingys at my house so I thought that this would be a breeze. It seems that this unit will have to be returned as it cannot be made to function correctly as an extender. And, to get phone support of the device it has to be installed and registered. HAHA. I get it to install correctly but must be able to connect to it wirelessly. Upon trying to connect to it, even though it is still in the same room as the originating router, my device, a new Samsung phone, tells me that the password/passkey for the device (which I purposefully copied from the originating router) is incorrect. ughhh. I give up!
If I should get this to work I'll repost a more positive review.

    Edited 4-10-17
Ok, sorry for that. I was able to get it to install and even update the firmware and connected to my original wifi network. It has soooo much better coverage/extending abilities. There is even a page on extender configuration to limit the power (100%, 75%, 50%) of the extender so as not to interfere with the originating wifi signal. My kids can now wander the house doing whatever they were doing on their wifi devices. I had mainly gotten this as I was having problems with the signal getting to my Roku downstairs thru concrete. Now there is never any buffering and I can/could wifi up to 4K video. You also have the option to change the wifi band (2.4 or 5GHz) on the Ethernet port out.
It seems that to configure the extender, the install wizard app says to use any wifi able device to connect for installation, and that is not true as the compute power is beyond my new Samsung GS7 phone. My newer desktop was able to do everything in seconds. There was none of the authentication problems that I had encountered before. I feel a little foolish as I had spent so long trying to get it to install correctly but using only one way. I have no problems recommending this device to extend or even to be an Access Point (there's a switch).
My only beef with the way Amazon sells Netgear anything is that they lump all the reviews together for all devices.

UPDATE JULY 3, 2021: I bought this device on April 20, 2020. It died on June 18, 2021. Since it's more than 90 days from the date of purchase, Netgear won't support it. I STRONGLY recommend against buying this product.
    ================
    ORIGINAL REVIEW FROM 2020:
Installation Attempt #1: Set up the router where I wanted it and installed the app. The app wanted me to set up an account, wanted my location, wanted me to agree to giving up ALL of my personal information, all just to install a wireless extender. By the time I'd given it my spam email address and done my utmost to avoid giving it any further information, I was already pretty darned unhappy.
Then I ran the installer, it failed (my assumption is that I was too far away from my original router, and there was no way to recover.

    Factory Reset #1.

OK. Moved closer. Followed all the steps exactly. It told me, "Congratulations! Your extender is all set up!"
Except... it somehow didn't get the passwords correct, so while I could connect while close to the original router, I couldn't connect while near the extender because it thought the password was wrong.
    Again, no way to recover.

    Factory Reset #2

I hate the app so much that my next attempt is going to be configuration via WPA, but at this point I'm ready to just throw the piece of junk back in the box and ship it back to Netgear.

I mean, seriously. "Give us your wifi name and password and we'll configure our router to extend it."
It's not rocket science. I've written code to do exactly that before.

But even though I can code it, I apparently can't get my Netgear router to DO it.

    That's pretty darned sad.

UPDATE: It took 4 factory resets, 4 different locations, and 3 installations of the app software, but it's finally working, and once it works it's doing quite well (27 Mbps down, 5 Mbps up, when my wired is 53 down 5 up). But it's all about the "sweet spot": If you're too close OR too far when you run the app, it first disables its configuration network (NETGEAR_EXT), then fails to install, so you're hosed and have to do a factory reset. Er, Netgear? How about coding it so that if the install fails for any reason it resets the configuration network WITHOUT my having to do a factory reset? And just plain get rid of the app remembering ANYTHING about a failed install?

Have a large house and had issues with the internet signal in the basement even with another Range extender. Another great feature is that I do not have to give the hub a different name. The login name is the same all over the house. The Extender will take over when required. Very convenient and save a lot of time.
