I have had this light for two days. In the two days, it’s been a fun little gadget and seems to be effective (daylight savings just happened and I don’t think I’ve had enough time to fairly gauge its effectiveness though it has woken me up the last two days and motivated me to get to sleep on time so I can use the wind down features). The real reason I’m writing this review is because I broke my light- let me rephrase- my dogs knocked the light over while I was at work and a chunk of the plastic snapped off. Imagine my despair when I realized I would have to spend what was already a wince-inducing amount on another wake up light after owning it for two days! Mind you, it still works, but it’s not in a condition where I wouldn’t have wanted to replace it.I called Philips and they’re sending a brand new device. There is the possibility that I may have to send this one back when it arrives, but in the meantime I still have an alarm to use. I didn’t even request this, it’s just the way replacements work with them. Obviously, this is not a product defect nor damage incurred during transit. I purchased the device refurbished on Amazon and they still honored their warranty. As I mentioned, there’s a chance I have to return mine, but there’s also a chance I won’t have to.The agent stayed on the line as she sent my confirmation email and made sure all of the information was correct. Could not have been a more pleasant experience. I am so relieved. Also, lesson learned: Small room, two large dogs… safely stow away the light when you go to work 😅 I’m already wondering if they make protective cases for it.If the price gives you pause, consider their warranty is 2-3 years and covers stuff like this. There’s a similar model that sells for a bit less without the connectivity features. I’d say if you’re going for a more affordable model, get the step down from that. It’s not worth saving ~$20 or so without those features, imho.

It still gets 5/5 from me. I bought the Hatch Restore the day before I bought this and discovered that the Restore requires a subscription for basic functionality. I returned it immediately and bought this instead!
Although this isn't a sound machine (only offers 1 hour of sound machine noise, which imo is bizarre - and it also pops up when you type "sound machine" into the search bar) I am very happy with this product. The sunset is amazing, just having the orange-ish light on while I read before bed just drones me to sleep. It also has a feature where you can breath with light or sound which is a proven way to trick your body into thinking it *is* asleep and you will thus fall asleep.
The options for alarms in the morning are SO MUCH BETTER than the Hatch Restore and exactly what I was looking for. And the light quality is also amazing. I just want to sit in front of it all day. I'm assuming that it likely works as a S.A.D. light as well.
It also tracks the humidity and temperature AND sound to make sure you're in the best conditions for sleep. I thought that was pretty impressive (and totally unnecessary...but still cool).

My only complaint (other than it not being a sound machine) is that although it hooks up to the SleepMapper app via Bluetooth, it requires an AUX connection to use it as a stereo. This was really surprising considering most newer phones don't come with an AUX port anymore. And why can't it connect via Bluetooth? Huge missed opportunity to have it connect to your favorite Spotify Playlist as an alarm.

As far as quality goes for a sunrise alarm clock though, it gets a 5/5 from me. Sunset and unwind 5/5. Alarm sounds 5/5.

Because I can get a Bluetooth speaker to play my music for like $20 - that part kind of feels like $220 is a huge price tag for something that uses Bluetooth but can't play your music...

But I don't want to take away any stars because it's still an impressive product.

I like a lot of things about this light, which replaced an older Phillips model. The customizable sunset and wake up hues are nice, since the older model I had only did bright white.

I do wish it had more sounds, as I’m not a tremendous fan of the ones that are built in. They have a short loop and are a bit repetitive.

It also only works 2.4ghz WiFi which can be an issue for some newer routers that only do 5ghz without the ability to force a separate 2.4ghz network.

The ability to set the light with a Phone app is amazing. However, I do find the control panel on this light, much more cumbersome, and confusing to use than the older model, which was also a chore to use.

Overall, expensive for what it is but it does help my sleep/wake.

We got to use one of these at a hotel we stayed in and my wife really liked it. She felt that it was easier to wake up with this alarm clock. The slow color changing light is great and gets bright. There are multiple alarm sounds but my wife is partial to the birds chirping. This model has the app connected to it and honestly I haven’t had any issues with it. It makes it quick and easy to set the alarm time, change the color of the light, etc. It connected to our WiFi network without any issues and connects through the app quickly. I don’t really use the other features in the app but the main things work well. Highly recommended!

I have to be honest I've never really tried any other versions of this type of clock/alarm but I decided to buy this one because I liked how you can customize the sunset colors and I liked the shape of it. I was a bit surprised at how expensive it is but honestly I'm really impressed! I have always struggled with alarm clocks and have never found that they work for me. From the very first time i used this alarm clock it woke me up so easily and I found myself waking up a few minutes before it would go off which is unheard for me. I love the nature sounds and also how you can have a traditional buzzer style alarm go off too just in case you are worried about getting up for something really important as a backup which is a great feature. The brightness goes high enough to use it as a night light if you want as well. I highly recommend this clock! The only downfall is the speaker isn't that great but it's not the reason you would buy this type of clock anyways but something to keep in mind. Oh and it was really simple to set up too!

2.0 out of 5 stars Mixed feeling; previous models were much better
Reviewed in Singapore on April 11, 2023

This is my 4th Philips wake-up light. I've used and loved that system for two decades.
And this one... it feels like a downgrade.
I was charmed by the promises on paper of the wifi connectivity... It turns out that they got rid of all the conveniences and replaced them by app function.

As other have mentioned before; the app isn't even available in my country! (Singapore). Had to manually source and install the APK. Risky; inconvenient.
It's also coming with a foreign plug; US ( or China) when I need UK.. I bought it on Amazon.sg this should not happen without a warning.

What I miss the most: Snooze by gentle tap on the bedside table.. why on earth would you remove such a great feature??
And of course all of the buttons.. there are only two left.. it's highly unpractical. Needs a few clicks to turn the light on, turn the radio on.. even more clicks to turn them off.
Haven't even figured out how to choose an alarm on the lamp itself; could only do it via the app.

This lamp apparently decides that it should turn itself off before changing mode.. that is, turn the light off with the alarm; turn off completely before turning back on for the on.. "sunset" function.. that's plain stupid for a lamp!

Sleep tracking is completely manual.. quite inconvenient..
Recording of humidity/noise/temperature/light during the night doesn't happen (unless, I guess, you manually activate the sleep tracking.. annoying).

Oh and it auto-updates.. of course it switch itself off completely to do so, without prompt or anything, for a good 15-20 minutes
Great for when you want to go to bed.

I upgraded to this model when my previous model finally broke after about 5 years. I can’t live without it!
I read in other reviews the app doesn’t work in Australia but was willing to go without it. To my surprise when I arrived I was able to download and use the app without a problem.

It has lots of extra features like being able to set automatic routine alarms (which is helpful as I work shifts so set them once and forget about it). You can track your sleep and it has lots of other cool features.

I used to be late to work everyday and couldn’t get up on time to save my life, this clock and the previous version changed my life. I wake up slowly and refreshed not startled into my day like before, especially in winter!
It’s expensive but it’s worth even cent and is great quality.

Better than expected. The setup could be improved, and it would be great to have more control over the lamp without having to open the app on the phone. But overall, the effect is noticeable. It is easier to wake up and with more energy. Even my cats are fans now.
