    Both Extreme and Original have 12 game pieces (noodles). Each noodle is a strand of 3, 4, or 5 beads arranged at different angles. The Extreme beads are polygonal. The Original beads are round.Extreme has a total 56 beads (8 5's, 4 4's). Original has a total of 55 beads (8 5's, 3 4's, one 3).Extreme has 3 puzzle types: 2-D, 3-D, Sliding 2-D.Original has 2 puzzle types: 2-D and 3-D.Extreme's 2-D playing area is a 5 row honeycomb. There are 11 holes on each row, except row 3 which has 12.Original's 2-D playing area is a 5x11 rectangle.Extreme's 3-D base is a triangle, with 6 holes on each side.Original's 3-D base is a 5x5 square.For the 2-D games, Extreme has very few "low level" warm up puzzles, and has lots of puzzles where you are challenged to place as many as 10 noodles.While the Original 2-D has a lot of low level warm up puzzles, and 6 is the highest level, you can easily turn those low level puzzles into (much) more challenging ones by only preloading 1 or two noodles, i.e. create your own levels 10, 11, or even 12 puzzles.The Sliding 2-D puzzles are unique to Extreme. You slide the cover to create a game area for 5 to 9 noodles. Slide the booklet under the game board and use the noodles as indicated. There are multiple ways to solve each puzzle.Happy noodling.

    I play with this a few times a week. It’s very relaxing to me, just difficult enough to be a challenge and not so difficult that it’s frustrating. I don’t enjoy regular cardboard puzzles because I don’t like seeing everything that I have left to find all spread out everywhere and I don’t like the mess and lack of portability, this game solves pretty much all of that for me. The puzzle pieces have a nice weight and texture to them, I really love the way they feel in my hands. I also like how everything goes neatly back into its tray and can be taken anywhere. The puzzles start off very easy to help you get the hang of it and then progress to more complex puzzles. The first few only took me about 5-10 minutes, now that I’m about 15 or 20 puzzles in, it takes me about 20-30 minutes to complete one (while watching tv-so some light distractions). The way the pieces sit just so into the tray and the slight clacking sound they make, is a pleasurable sensory experience for people who are like me and are more sensory aware. The puzzles are nice to do again even after you’ve beat them before because, unless you have a photographic memory, you forget exactly where everything needs to go after awhile, you could really get a lot of game play and re-play out of this.
    I definitely want to buy the other sets after I complete this one! If you like neat and compact things, organizing and sorting are fun tasks for you, and you like simple challenges, you really might like this so it’s worth trying it out!

    Sturdy plastic, fits in the case again, contained game. Not for use in the car because it has many small pieces that are used to stack.
