    A great puzzler for puzzlers
    We received our puzzle today in the mail. It was very well packaged (the mail man threw it 20 feet to my porch and it sustained no damage). So far my 17 month old has spent the last 2 hours enamoured with it.He has figured out two locks very quickly, but the rest confound him. This will be a great toy for us to use together to teach endurance and patience. I expect this toy to also grow with him as he learns new problem solving strategies as he ages. A great buy!

    We recently bought this for our 15-month-old, as she loves figuring out locks and even her car seat clip. This toy has kept her engaged and allows her to practice the skill of maneuvering various types of locks to build fine motor skills. What I love most about it is that the locks are realistic and made of metal (no cheap plastic; this is the real deal). There are also a wide variety of locks, some of which she can manipulate now and others which are more challenging, so I think she’ll be able to use this for some time to come. Behind each door is a different group of animals and we talk about the colors, animals, and numbers in each scene, which helps to build language skills too.

     As a speech language pathologist and baby/toddler mom, I continue to be amazed at the learning opportunities that Melissa and Doug include in their products. I bought this for my 1 year old who continues to learn the latches and is very interested/amazed by them. The latches are very easy to manipulate (they don't get stuck)- see video. This puzzle is larger than typical puzzles so it takes up a little more room but it also is lighter weight than I would expect (I would not consider either of these attributes a con!)! This offers so many learning opportunities beyond simply "open and shut"- we incorporate talk/identification colors, numbers, shapes, patterns, locations, animals, etc. The color of the puzzle sticks out and are very vibrant.
