About this item

  • BOOKSHELF SPEAKERS - The Debut 2.0 B6.2 raises the bar for bookshelf performance higher than ever before. With a black ash vinyl finish and newly developed tweeters, woofers & cabinets, these small-but-mighty speakers are unbelievably musical.
  • CLOTH DOME TWEETER - The soft-dome tweeter features wide-roll surround & takes response up to 35,000 Hz making them perfect for hi-res music. The waveguide improves directivity control & minimizes diffraction modes inherent in traditional box enclosures.
  • WOVEN ARAMID-FIBER WOOFER - The aramid cone shape offers even greater stiffness and damping, far superior to polypropylene or paper. The added strength allows more flexibility in design to achieve a smoother, extended low-frequency response.
  • THICK MDF CABINETS - The MDF cabinets are larger and internally braced for greater stiffness & strength, reducing cabinet vibrations. Plus, the front-firing ports prevent placement against walls or in bookshelves from compromising performance.
  • REDESIGNED FROM THE GROUND UP - The original Debut Series changed the game & now it’s changed again with the Debut 2.0 Series. Redesigned from the ground up, they sound more remarkable than the speakers that sparked a revolution in high-end sound.

    Using as desktop nearfield monitors
I am using these as a nearfield desktop setup. They are probably overkill, but I don't care, because they sound great! At the moment, I have these hooked up to a Fosi Audio T3. They perform well with this little amp, but I am sure they can handle more power. I will try a couple of other amps later.I have a surround sound setup in my bedroom using Jamo S-803's. These put the smack down on those! The Jamo gets muddy in the midrange and lacks punch. The Elac's have great range through-out and a lot more bass than I expected. I am super impressed with these little speakers.----- Update -----Several hours of listening and tweaking inputs to get it just right. I am really enjoying these speakers. Still sending signal through bluetooth. Used FXSound app to dial in the sound. If you are sending through a laptop/pc, don't forget to turn off all of the virtual sound, bass booster, enhanced sound settings in the bluetooth sound settings as they may throw off how these should really perform.

These speakers are very musical. They were packed well, arrived promptly. I am pleased with the quality and value of this purchase. I read many positive reviews and concur. Recommend them for listening to most genres but they are not going to provide the excessive bass some prefer. Overall a balanced presentation, enjoyable listening experience. I don’t think you will be disappointed.

These are often on sale. I have used these on different amps in a small ot midsized room. They are not ultra detailed. Still they are most often limited by the amp in budget systems. They can project a sound stage wider than the speakers and have some layering and depth. Imaging is good but not ultra precise. I can tell where everyone is standing or in an orchestra where each group of instrument is with a decent DAC and amp to feed them. They are fairly neutral. As with most budget speakers the bass is limited and better with a sub. However, I can listen to them without a sub and still enjoy the music. Placement is very forgiving. I have the about a foot from the back wall and that gives good imaging and soundstage. Even though they are front ported the bass pre3sence overcomes details next to the walls. Placed straight forward in my room gives the widest soundstage. Towed in improves imaging.

They lean towards an audiophile sound at this price. The Rotel A10 (orA11) seem well matched to them for those who want a more revealing audiophole sound. A NAd C316 Bee V2 is a warmer more forgiving amp. I have also has them on a Aiyiama D03 for music listening in an apartment. They are on a Yamaha currently. The mostly neutral speakers can show the strengths of any amp. I go through a lot of DACs. Thse speakers reveal the difference between DACs and I usually have 2. 1 for soundstage and warmth. The other is for classical music and orchestras where I like more detail and sharper imaging. These are a general do anything speaker. Many speakers have boosted highs and bass and vocal become recessed. These are not that way. I like the tonal balance of these. For some Rock, R&B, Jazz, Country, and Vocalists these can have a natural not fatiging sound. Off axis they are pleasant. In the sweet spot, the soundstage and imaging are much better than average as this price point. Value is very high with these.

As other reviewers have mentioned, these speakers tend towards being on the bright side for high frequencies. They are not mellow at all, and produce sparkle to the overall room acoustics. However, I can correct the brightness by adjusting the treble on my receiver, and/or lowering the equalizer Q for high frequencies. But stand alone, without any interfacing, these speakers are at the pivot point of being too bright and too sparkly.

That being said, the entire sound is crisp, clear and clean. And to my ear, the bass is tight, robust, and natural sounding without boosting.

As another reviewer mentioned, the Elac's need breaking-in; and in my case, some acoustic treatment for absorption is necessary. I bought these speakers to makeup a 7.1 surround system, and right now they're being played (stand alone) in an empty room that's under renovation, with bare walls producing excessive reflections. So it's hard to tell now how they will sound in the end. But I think these speakers have great potential and will fulfill my needs.

The build quality is solid and heavy (the Amazon driver said the box weighed 50 lbs). I struggled carrying the large box up the stairs and to the room. The speakers are taller and larger than what I imagined they'd be - impressive. Definitely for top-shelf placement, or on speaker stands. The solid black matte finish, and the silver Elac emblem, give the speakers a hefty presence. I like them in every way.

I've not heard any rattling from the covers - they fit snugly - but you have to make sure the speaker cover pins align perfectly with the holes in the speaker enclosure before setting gently and firmly in place.

I really enjoy the new sound produced by these speakers (replacing Cambridge Soundworks bkshlf), without any distortion that I've noticed at higher dB levels. They sound great @ 40dB, and have carried well and loud @ 65dB. But good sound at any volume level is relative to the listener - some people will like these, some will not. I don't think any speaker, no matter the price, is 'one size fits all', and high price does not always translate to good quality. The Elac sound quality exceeds the price in my opinion.

    Enjoy, or not!

    UPDATE: 07/06/22
After breaking in, these Elac speakers are now part of a 7.1 surround array for 'side' speakers, or stand alone 2.1 stereo. They sound awesome for a bright and deep base accompaniment in sound room with acoustic treatments, and without that 'almost too sparkly' sound as stated earlier in four star review. I don't think there could be a better speaker for the price.

    Highly recommend.

I've been looking for a set of bookshelf speakers for a small living room for the past couple of weeks. I had a $100 gift card so set my budget initially for around $100 mark.

I already have a set of Micca MB42 with a subwoofer for my desktop computer and was leaning towards purchasing the Micca MB42x but decided to increase my budget upto $200.

Honestly, I think the Micca speakers should be classified more as "Desktop" not Bookshelf. Don't get me wrong, the Miccas are great for their size and when you add a small subwoofer. They can generate some great sound....but they NEED a subwoofer for all types of music. I'm guessing this is true for smaller sized bookshelf speakers in general....physics is physics.
    So small ~$100 speakers+decent subwoofer = ~$200.

However, these ELACs are the whole package and require no subwoofer for genres ranging from Pop, Jazz, Classical, and folk. They have perfect balance.
For Rock and Roll, obviously a subwoofer is going to add a lot.

In summary, if you want decent audio for a room, you have to start looking at the larger speakers and speakers around $200. I got these ELACs for $199 and they fit perfectly into this scenario.

The only downside are the looks. No option for warmer colours or wood finish in the States.

Reviewed in Canada on April 25, 2024
I did a reasonable amount of research after I decided to get some new ‘bookshelf’ speakers to go with a new Onkyo 5.2 receiver I recently bought. The Elac’s have got very favourable reviews from a number of sources. I had borrowed a pair of similarly speced Paradigm speakers from a friend and I believe these Elac speakers sound better overall. The bass, for my listening, is clear and defined. I don’t game or watch Marvel movies so I don’t know how the accentuated bass from those sources would sound on these. I currently have watched some sports and listened to a number of CDs at considerable volume and the speakers handle it well. They are tight with drum sounds and everything sounds very lifelike. I play in a band so I know what real sound is like. The highs are very clear and defined. My favourite piece to test them with is the hidden track from Aerosmith’s Avant Garden from Just Push Play. It has the orchestral as well as a good number of instruments to show what the speakers are capable of. My local shop that carries the Elac brand are audiophiles and they include them in store with many exotic speakers, however I was able to get them from Amazon for $150 less. I am VERY statisfied with this purchase and would highly recommend them.

I haven't had the opportunity to listen to a lot of speakers in this price range. But for the price, these speakers rock. Impressive sound for the size, punches above it's size for sure if compared to my older speakers (PSB/Paradigm). Again, I'm just a casual music lover, the sound generated from these speakers are very good. For the money you can't go wrong.
