    My old LG 4K player started to act up by freezing twords the end of any movie and not wanting to switch layers, so I decided to do some research.
    This 4K player was always in top 3 if not the number 1 pick.
    It arrived a day sooner than promised and in great condition.
    The set up was easy and straightforward by following the onscreen prompts.
    The amazing picture quality was absolutely noticeable from the start!!
    The sound quality is rich with subtle details I previously didn't notice.
    The build of the unit is solid and sleek.
    I haven't used it for its highly praised upscaling yet, but I'm sure it won't disappoint!!
    It's more expensive than other players, but I feel from the picture quality I've witnessed thus far (Star Wars: A New Hope and Top gun Maverick) it's well worth the price!!
    I look forward to watching countless movies now, without wondering when it's going to freeze 3/4 of the way through the movie.
    The remote is nice and straightforward. The only slight downside to me is the lack of streaming apps available. No Disney+, but has Netflix and Prime video.
    The setting options are in depth, but I'm not going to play around with them. They are all there if that's what you're looking for.

    This is an excellent machine, top to bottom, starting with the user interface. Upon start-up, the interface has an elegant look to it and easy to use. Making your selection has never been more user friendly.

    The only reason I gave the remote a 4-star rating is that there is no selection on it for subtitles which I always use due to hearing loss. However, it is available within OPTIONS on the remote. And when you get to subtitles inside OPTIONS, you have some control over the position and look of the subtitles. I have never that that option before.

    And there are many controls you can select within VIDEO and AUDIO selections. There is a several choice selection of HDR (High Dynamic Range) as well.

    In comparison to other 4K UHD players, this looks better and so far, doesn't freeze up while changing layers. I have another player of a different brand which I purchased a few months ago that will freeze up while changing layers. (I have researched why it freezes up and that is what I found). This machine doesn't freeze up anywhere in the movie. It plays straight through, start to finish. Yay! So far. I will say that I got it just yesterday and have watched one movie so far. There is a point in this 4K movie that it freezes up with our other machine and last night it played straight through top to finish without freezing. Yay!

    This is completely worth the price. Like we've always heard, "You get what you pay for". I suggest that you don't go with cheaper the models just to save some coin, you may be very sorry that you did like I was.

Did a lot of research before buying the Sony and it seemed like the right balance of cost and performance, but I was actually somewhat annoyed and disappointed with several aspects of it, even before it bricked for no apparent reason. The menu was bare bones and ugly, the whole user experience felt cheap, and the lack of automatic Dolby Vision detection was super annoying (having to check to see if the disc you’re playing has dolby vision, then going through the menu on the player to manually turn it on or off for every movie you want to watch). The UB820 is a far better experience on all fronts. When first hooking it up and powering on, it runs an initial easy setup that detects your TV and properly optimizes everything (something the Sony doesn’t do). The menu is clean and looks a lot nicer. And hallelujah - automatic HDR modes. It’s just painless and works like you would expect a blu ray player at this price point to work. Of course the picture and sound quality are fantastic. Time will tell how it holds up, but based upon initial impressions I would highly recommend this over the X800M2.
