Newer model: L2550DW - Majority Pros with minimal Cons
Just installed and have successfully: Scanned to PC, Airprint (iPhone), print from Desktop PC (running Windows), and Macbook Air Laptop. None of these devices is wired, but I DID connect the printer via Ethernet to my Motorola Router/Modem combo. I used the provided disc to install on my Windows Desktop PC, and then after installing, it asked if I would like to make the available updates (just two) and those updates were under a minute combined. Overall having to mess with the wires behind my entertainment center in order to get the cables connected took longer than the actual installation of the printer which makes me VERY happy.Like other reviewers, I went back and forth on whether to order this model bc of the negative reviews - but when I filtered OUT the reviews for the L2540DW and focused on the newer model L2550DW, I saw some of the complaints (most of which were negligible) and focused on installing the printer via ethernet to make it easier, which it was. I can't speak to setup via wireless Wi-Fi only (that seems to be the big complaint, but setting up past printers or even a new internet connection in a new apartment without an ethernet is always a hassle), but I will say so far I am happy with the print quality and speed of install. If you're going to setup via Wi-Fi only, I would do as other reviewers suggested and go straight to the Brother site to download the software prior to install.I also turned off "DEEP SLEEP" mode right away at the suggestion of MPFerry(thanks!) as follows:"On the printer:1. Menu button2. 1. General Setup then OK3. 2. Ecology then OK4. 3. Sleep Time then OK5. While you see the sleep number, push Minus button and Stop/Exit button at the same time6. DEEP SLEEP mode - push Minus button for OFF then OKThis should turn off Deep Sleep mode permanently! (Or at least until the next firmware update is installed, then you may have to do it again.)"Now, to override the alert Brother gives you when it THINKS you are out of ink, I have user Allegra to thank for that as follows:"Go to the buttons and follow these instructions:MENU > GENERAL SETTINGSPress the down button (minus sign) until you get to REPLACE TONERHit OKPlease the down button (minus sign) until you see CONTINUEHit OK"Planning on doing as others suggested and when it comes time to refill toner, removing the chip from the original Brother brand toner and saving to place on the generic toner I'll buy.In order to scan to either of my Macbooks, I did need to install the drivers etc and download the iPrint&Scan app from Brother, but its not something I'm bothered by. I installed on my macbooks right away so I wouldn't have to think about it in the future. Is it annoying that I can't hit the scan button on the printer and just have it ask me which computer I'd like to send it to? Yes, but a minor inconvenience that didn't put me over.Bottom line, if you're able to connect the printer to your network via ethernet - it'll save you a lot of trouble installing. Fix settings right away to turn off "Deep Sleep" mode, and force the printer to "Continue" past when it thinks you're out of toner.I'll update if it takes poop.

I bought this machine for my home-based business. This is by far the BEST all-in-one machine I've had - and I've owned at least 10 different ones. If you are OK with the fact that it is only black and white (which I totally am), everything else about it is STELLAR. Simple to use software, no fluff, no pesky additional marketing, no drying ink, and no need to replace toner every two months. In fact, I've had this printer for 6 months so far, and there is plenty of toner left. Print quality is superb.

Everything in this printer works as it should. The build is solid and reliable. I use it wirelessly, and it has been operating flawlessly with all my machines and phones. No Wi-Fi issues. In fact, printing from my iPhone is super easy. My friends and guests are nicely surprised when I tell them how easy it is to work with it. Solid 5 stars. Highly recommended.

I love Brother printers. They are more affordable then an HP, Toner lasts forever and just very durable and rugged. This printer is no exception. If you need just a basic Monochrome (No color) that also has a color scanner and Copier, this is the one for you.

It also has Built in Wired and Wireless Networking. This printer DOES work with the Brother android and Apple apps and prints very nicely from you phone. This was a prerequisite for the client I purchased this for.

The only thing I wish it had was a better way to navigate the menu system. Its using the arrow keys and the ok button. It works, just takes some getting used to.

Same goes for entering the WiFi password. You have to arrow to each letter. Her password was all lowercase so that was easy but if you have symbols and uppercase that takes a little more time to enter. Another area that gave some issues, but setting up the Scan to PC funtion. I never could get it working properly. She also didnt need that function as you can do it right from the PC itself so we never spent too much time on it.

Otherwise the printer is very fast and good quality printing, Durable and should last for many many years.

Our old Brother B&W laser was acting up so often that we couldn't really use it anymore. We tried downloading Brother drivers, but they didn't support my newer iMac. The L2640DW was easy to set up and get working. Print quality is very good for a B&W laser. Scanner works great and uses a desktop app instead of having to poke through Settings. It doesn't have a fax, but who still uses a fax anymore? I was glad Brother offered a budget all in one printer without the fax. Also, our old Brother use to go into 'zombie' sleep mode and couldn't be woken up without powering it off. The L2640DW has no such sleep issues. Very happy with this printer so far...

The ink capacity is insane, and the overall quality and readability of the prints is outstanding! Forget ink jets, laser all the way! It is crazy how quick this thing can fire up after weeks of inactivity, and just how long the cartridge lasts!

I did alot of research before purchasing this printer, Ive had HP, Cannon and i did not like the support or the quality of machine. This Brother has been GREAT. You can print and scan from your computer over wifi, your phone from anywhere. Not a single glitch or error out of it in months. All for $200. Toner has lasted many pages, prints quick, and does not throw papers on the table or ground. I will without a doubt buy another in the future.

I plugged in the USB cord, and about one second later Windows 10 told me my printer was set up. All functions worked including print, scan, and photocopy, that quick! If you use WiFi I guess there are a couple more steps, but I like USB hard wired, and for that you likely won't even need the included disc. (You will however need a USB printer cable which I had from my last printer.) Opposite experience vs. some other companies where you literally need an account to use your hardware. Brother was my first laser printer back in the late 90's, and after a couple other brands over 25 years, I am so happy to be back to Brother again. 5 stars all day long!

Unlike some people here; I had no problem setting it up. Connection to WiFi was kind of funny without a physical keyboard, but it's the kind of thing you do once. Just insert the utilities CD and follow the instructions. I do agree it's REALLY noisy though. You may think the printer mechanically struggles to get the sheet from the tray and route it internally for printing, but it's not. For the price, can't complain much about that. The bottom line is that the printing quality/price ratio is excellent.

Reviewed in Canada on February 15, 2024

Bought to replace a ink jet printer. Costs for previous were too high to garner wasting more bucks. Seeing as I print so rarely I decided on a monochrome laser printer.
Came quickly. Packaged very well. Fits in area old one sat in. Is taller and heavier but didn't have fax. That alone is not something I need also. There are other models that have this and colour also but at this price I was happy to get this.
My only problem was setting up. A little bit of searching online fixed this. This is also because I use Linux. After doing the steps again found on another website I have it working properly. As said I print so rarely it took a few extra weeks to get to setting back up.
WIreless printing works fine on my network.
The toner should last a while as says about 750 pages. The toner for this unit is decent priced also as compared to others seen while shopping.
Now no more wasted ink cartridges and ruined print heads.
