Great Gate
We used to have a gate with the bottom bar that destroyed our walls. This gate is a big upgrade. It's much easier to open and close. Yet our grandkids can't open the gate. I had to cut the bottom to allow for the baseboard. Since the gate is wood it's easy to modify. We mainly use the gate to keep our dogs corraled. Everyone that uses these gates comment on how much better they are than the previous gate. They are ready to remove by lifting while in the full open position. And they stay open when needed. The template provided makes installation easy. We have used the gate for a few months before I reviewed. Couldn't be happier

- Included offset mounts
- Included a great template for installation for the hinge side
- The wood portion is well made
- Includes stop for one-way operation
Cons:
- Installation of the latch / stopping mechanisms has much less thought put into it.
- No auto-close
- The latching mechanism has to be intentionally latched, cannot close shut to latch.
- The plastic portions feel a bit cheap
- The sliding operation feels clumsy and not as refined as my other gate from the same brand.
This cannot be easily installed on a stairway that doesn't have walls that go at least 3-6 inches past the start of the stairs. I was able to do so but mounted it at 90 degrees. I had to purchase some thing poplar wood to mount the latching mechanisms as they don't provide an offset for the non-hinge side install.
If you're trying to keep pets out, installing it above the baseboard leaves too large of a gap. However I wasn't concerned about this and should have went that route, however due to the width of our stairway I would have needed boards to close the gap on the other side regardless.
